New player, haven't played much and I'm still getting used to the scale i should be moving on to, I end up stopping expanding when I think I'm big enough, (its never big enough) but either way I'm still enjoying things greatly.

One thought has been skipping in my mind sense backing. I know Uber have said they don't intend to include space combat, but they have said there will be orbital units. My thinking was, Would there be units that could move from the orbit of one world to the other? Similarly, has there been any talk on how you move units from one planetary body to the other? Personal hope for large unarmed transport hulks/invasion craft ala the start of SW ep 1 (loath to make that reference but that sequence was rather cool)

    Edit:
I forgot to Mention, are the multiple windows dealies in yet? I feel a little lost without a minimap and i remember the devs saying this would eliminate the need for one.

Many of these things have been discussed before. Make sure you use the search button ;)

Yes, there will be a way of sending units to other planets. We know of a cannon like system, but I'm sure there will be plenty of other options. Also, The game will use multiple monitors and windows, Mavor has promised that one.

    Welcome to the forums :).

There will be units which are capable of traveling from orbit to orbit - a couple of different types of lander at least (although I'm not sure about large scale unit transporters - the confirmed landers seem to be for engineers and your commander). You also have things like the unit cannon which will be capable of firing units from planet - moon or perhaps even planet to planet.

Multiple monitors has been confirmed, but isn't currently implemented. Watch this space I guess.

    Hopefully see you in game!

    Don't forget galactic gates as-yet-unnamed teleporters ;)

ah yes! I always forget those, which is strange considering I am very curious as to how they are going to work. Are they going to be standard engineer on the surface builds a sending teleporter, another engineer builds a receiving teleporter on a different planet and units come through.
Or are we going to see something more adventurous, like building the sending teleporter on one planet/in a planets orbit, building the receiving end in the same orbit, and then firing the receiving end at the planet you want to invade. The receiving end then arrives in the enemy orbit, and they have a short time to destroy it before it becomes active and spews out all your units!

I'm hoping that we can hitch a ride on asteroids to travel between planets too.

Imagine capturing an asteroid, setting up a small base on it with a nuke or two a few factories pumping out units, and some unit cannons. Then altering its orbit to orbit around the enemy planet. Rain down a few nukes to clear a landing zone, then use unit cannons to send in your assault force. Once you've established a "beachhead" on this new planet, you "dispose" of the asteroid base you rode in on by introducing it to the largest concentration of enemies you can find.

Edit: As far as teleporters go, I think they will cost something like x amount of energy per unit teleported based on the mass cost of that unit. And it will probably be a very large multiplier so that sending huge forces all at once is impossible (since storing that much energy would be difficult).

That way its more like a trickle of units, rather than a sudden surge of your entire force. Once you setup a small base, it would be more efficient to produce the units on site rather than warping them in.

Obviously, there needs to be some mechanism to ferry units between planets. The unit cannon and teleportation are two ways that we expect to see.

An orbital ferry unit is another way of doing this, but not my preference. I'd much rather rely on large numbers of cheap disposable rockets.

However, I believe it is imperative that orbital combat units should not be able to leave the orbital layer they are initially launched/built. I've nothing against them being launched into the orbital layers of other worlds, but once there, thats where they should stay. This is extremely important as otherwise, we run the risk of having ground combat become completely supplanted, due to the vast mobility advantage that an orbital satellite swarm would have. I have explained how this system could work in some detail here.

    I hope there's a big multi-unit-transport lander.
