(I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this.) So I'm loving the game. I totally suck at it, but I'm having a total blast trying to get better. Well, I should say I'm having fun up until the audio completely cuts out on me. I'll be playing as normal, and I'll hear a bit of intermittent audio crackles or pops, and then eventually the sound will just completely stop. If I exit the game, I'll have my sound back. I'm using a Razer Megalodon headset, and I've had this kind of issue with two other games (Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim). So far the only solution I found in both of those instances was disabling and re-enabling the audio device through Windows, but it doesn't seem to work for this game. It's terribly annoying, and ultimately game-breaking because I can't hear when I'm being attacked, or when the radar detects enemies. It's simply not possible for me to keep track of every single part of the planet to know the moment I'm being attacked, so sound is a rather important aspect for me. Has anyone had this same issue? Does anyone know of a fix? Any kind of help would be appreciated. I've made sure to file a bug report, but I'm well aware it could also be my hardware causing the issue, too. I'll include a copy of my most recent DxDiag report in the hopes that that will help. At this point it's just not worth playing the game because it's no fun playing in complete silence, especially when I can't hear the tanks that are blowing up my commander.
Some googling (link) said me you probably might fix the problem though firmware upgrade: http://drivers.razersupport.com//in...view&parentcategoryid=105&pcid=37&nav=0,78,37
Thank you very much. When I first encountered this issue, I never found this in the search results. I'll give it a try. Hopefully this fixes my problems. If it does, you're gonna be my new best friend. XD
USB audio always has problems. On Debian jessie, if one app forces alsa to act up, the sound is lost for the entire system. It usually is a piping problem, perhaps buffer related. If it's fed to a server such as Jack, or pulse audio, restarting that server will restore the sound.
Situation with sound cards on Windows is worse than on Linux in case of non-supported hardware. E.g on Linux game (actually FMOD) don't know anything about output device and only work win sound server. It's mean when you disconnect sound card or it's re-initialized after fault game don't even know about that. As long as I understand on Windows this is not working this way (at least without professional sound cards) and this is why PA crash if there no sound output device.
Reminds me of that FMOD crash I got when disabled pulse. Either way, the sound will still cut out, but without a server such as jack or pulse, alsa itself needs to be restarted, and sometimes that will fail as there may be some zombie clients. I still haven't found the time to debug this. It's all related to USB audio. At least with a sound server, you can easily recover since alsa only has one client, not multiple.
Obviously if FMOD connected to pulse and you disable it there will be crash, but I never have any pulse crashes since may be 2010. Situations when sound card re-initialized happen far more often at least with some buggy/old drivers.
Well, I played a game and I still noticed a little bit of crackling, but the sound didn't cut out while I was playing, so I can honestly live with that. I'll test the issue with Skyrim tomorrow, but if you've fixed my audio woes, I'm seriously gonna be ecstatic. Thanks, SSX!
I get this a LOT. I do not have a USB headset. Running on a 3.5mm front jack. Tactic3D Alpha headset. Really annoying. Is it known?
Nope this is first time I'm seen this issue and I'm seen most of issues on this forum. Can you upload your DxDiag.txt?
