Might be just me but it seems the level one units have been dubbed utterly useless now. In alpha majority of my games didn't make it to lvl2 as a ta tactics prevailed and we were generally battling over mex ASAP. Now it seems that you can almost instantaneously obtain the power of t2. Not that I don't like t 2 but I miss my t1 units and the strategy afforded by them. Perhaps I just need an overhaul of my tactics and stop my bitching
And while you try to rush t2 I've denied you any expansion and surrounded you with t1 bots. gg no re.
I've won very big games using largely T1 units. Don't let them freely tech up on you, keep them spending resources fending off your attacks. Make them work for it. Otherwise they will grow into a royal pain to deal with later. And like Zaphod said, you can cover a lot of ground by pumping out cheap units which will pay out in the end.
With the major drop in metal availability, I find your comments a little surprising. Unless using the Advanced Mex exploit of course. Generally speaking, I've had to keep basic units as my primary forces with a little bit of advanced to help bolster or break through defenses. Curious to hear more details how you're never needing basic units, and if you're winning.
Not saying I don't just joined a few team games with goobers insistent on going straight to t2. And it pays off.... must just be the influx of recently joined beta players who are all doing the same thing..... I'm inn full agreement of t1 spam and attack constantly.
unless you got the economy to support mass T2 production then know you cant just hop to T2. Sure it might be faster and easier to build an advanced factory but that means nothing if you cant expand because the enemy set up a perimeter around your base. But I am a nub at Rts games, nubby to the point that I cant seem to be comfortable without watching the visuals rather than working on my next objective.
Well in team games it's harder to do harass unless your teammates are working with you. If your harass doesn't work they get t2 eco up and you can't catch up.
Those tactical missile launcher-type defence towers are so much more efficient to attack with t1 spam, the rocket does enough damage to one-shot even adv. units, but if you swarm with t1, they're wasting so much DPS on overkilling individual t1 grunts that they are no longer an effective defence. Just one example of how t1 is still very relevant into later game stages.
^I found myself getting beaten because of this and was going to use it as an argument. I am please to find someone beat me to it! All T2 defences massively struggle againt T1 unit swarms - the only possible exception being the artillery cannon - which has powerfull splash
If you swap out t2 defences with siege weapons then that makes sense. There also very easy to pick off with bombers.
I also like how the advanced tank compares to the basic one, with poor turning speeds but a longer ranged and more powerful attack. Like the good old light tank fighting mammoth tank days.
Yeah, and even then, those t1 bots move so fast, splitting them into a few small groups and bum rushing the artillery will just completely overwhelm its already slow rate of fire. in comparison, the t1 laser towers fire so fast that they shred t1 bots to pieces. I really like how the different tiers of defence structures are more specialised to deal specifically with threats of a matching tier. t1 lasers get countered by adv. arty bots/tanks, which, in turn, are countered by missile launchers, which in turn, are countered by t1 spam, brilliant.
Anybody else still find it strange that the missile launcher still tracks targets? Doesn't that make the static artillery kinda useless?
Yeah, i really like how the adv. units are specialised compliments to your unit mix, rather than out and out replacements.
Ah well seems lack of coordination is the key. Just checking... said player bashed me for my usual run of game tactics at lvl1 as should be. Seems it was a newbie
Haven't found that personally. Pound for pound, a well played Holkins is much more effective than the Catapult. Catapult only takes out single units. A well placed Holkins can take out an entire invading army in pretty short order, with just a few well placed shots.
IMO all units are really usefull, its just how you use them at the end of the day.T1 are good for consistent surprise attacks
I have found them to be a little lacking personally when compared to catapults, but it might just be my perspective. Do we still have plants to have them use power to shoot as well? (For both preferably)
