What do you use to encode your videos to a more manageable size? I previously used Handbrake, but recently(today), I decided to give the AMD video converter a try, and encoding went from 20 minutes, to almost 2 minutes thanks to the GPU, bringing the video from a 3.9GB behemoth to a 150MB clip. Now, all that remains is to put the clips together, but I'm wondering if there is a program that can let me do that without needing to encode the whole thing.
Not sure there's something that will do what you're asking for. You want to compress your clips, then put them together without a re-encode? None of the programs I've got can do something like that. I don't compress my footage to a lossy format anymore but when I used to, I used VirtualDub for all my compression. Edit: I do have an alternate solution. If PlayClaw works well for you, it can record your entire match as one video file (with similar very low compression like Fraps). I find Fraps works better for my machine but PlayClaw has gotten good reviews from others that use it. You could compress your single file instead of many 3.9GB files.
If Playclaw is more demanding than Fraps, I might not be able to use it. As it is, I can barely manage 30 fps on 800 x 600 Res (laptop btw). Edit: I decided to shrink the videos with Handbrake whenever I finish a recording session. While quite a bit slower, I achieve much better quality for the size of the file itself. Then, I'll probably use Windows Movie Maker to splice the bits together. Alternatively, I could use Windows Movie Maker first, encoding to a lossless format, then run the whole thing through Handbrake to get it down to a size I decide.
use DXtory, it performs better and you can encode to any format you want, and adjust the size of the videos and a load of other performance options
