This Game Being Modded into Different Genres?

    I just thought, there are many games that have fan mods, and the fan mods change it into a different kind of game.

    I was thinking that this game could be given different themed units, given different objectives, and even made into different types of games like rpgs and dotas.

    Just food for thought as this game is made, so the developers make it possible to be modded. Could make a massive overhead civilization builder with mods.

    I think many already plan into doing that. Though I'd hope they would try to do something more original instead of just trying to make another DotA/MOBA clone.

    I kinda touched on this here; viewtopic.php?p=618930#p618930

    At least in terms of implementation.

    But it also depends on how you define 'Genre', Uber seems to be trying to make an engine that's as "open" as possible, but at it's core it is still an RTS engine, so I doubt we'll be seeing FPS/TPS(or at least won't be seeing good ones) out of it, but indications seem good so far to high modability in these terms of making something like a Dtoa-clone, among others.

    I was thinking two possibilities being:

    - an action rts where 4 people per team, 1 team vs 1 team, control 4 units per person, and play for objectives with similar balance and gameplay of a class based shooter.

    - a sandbox game, where the planet generator generates as it currently does, and you collect multiple resources and create and control a civilization.

    Those should be easy enough so long as we're as we're given adequate "scenario Scripting"(similar to Starcraft's Trigger system) and the ability to control what/show you starter off with units(forgoing the gating in commander in favor of a Class selection screen maybe in the vein of your first idea).

    You guys know that we make this game called Super Monday Night Combat that's basically 3rd person DOTA right? You guys also know that o and Scathis were the design team behind Demigod right? I would be shocked if we don't get at least a few DOTA like game mods.

    On the other hand something like an FPS is probably not going to be a good fit for the engine. Since it's pure client/server you would have to build a client side prediction layer which might be difficult within our architecture.

    Certainly true, but fact remains that at the end of the day we can only mod something is the end result is something we can do within the engine's frame work! ;p

    So give us the power, and we'll make it so!

    I don't entirely like the idea adding a player's own precision via aiming with mouse or joystick as a factor in combat effectiveness. That is more of an SMNC thing.

    I would expect this to cater to "every unit is as effective no matter who uses it" gameplay. No "I aim betterz so I win" mentality. The unit does what it does at a flat rate, and the skill lies in the unit's use.

    Even C&C Renegade had a limited amount "aiming" effects a player. Players do more damage for aiming better, but do significant threat just firing with human accuracy and the game didn't hamper aim at all compared to player movement so no wiggle or recoil or whatnot.

    Well with the procedural generator I'm sure you could make some pretty interesting scenarios. Particularly if there was a way of implementing it into the actual gameplay.

    I am just saying, as long as it can theoretically generate new resources such as "trees", "iron, gold, copper, tin, coal", and "fish, wildlife, and player-programmed cities" perhaps.

    Anyone want to do an "RTS vs MOBA" game where you can either macro hoards of tanks, or solo with your commander (but never both)?

    Lol, multiple planet Dota. Each planet is the gap between one tower to the next, the jungle is the asteroid belt. Commanders come with blastoff packs for asteroid hopping but require capturing a rocket launch pad to advance on planets. Rogue AIs manufacture waves of mindless bots that crash against each other. >.>

    You can't make a classical Dota in this. But it would be interesting to see.
