The worst community I have ever seen...

Of course I'm joking, because to make that statement there would have to be a community, and there isn't.

Why does no one talk in this game, I'm not talking about headsets, I mean basic text. Or even some basic communications so you can get organised.

Here's my feedback, put in some community features encourage people to talk and communicate. It's boring to play this game, because I feel so isolated. What's the point of spending all that time getting in to a server (which is a pain in the arse, and a whole other issue, that needs to be sorted soon) when I can just play alone and basically get the same game.

The flamebait seems unnecessary. It's true this game needs extra features in the communication department, but there's nothing stopping you from making friends and playing with them.

Part of it is that the chat functions are kind of annoying to use

It's just no fun if you can only type 20 letters and then you have to make a new one. I did it in the free weekend because of the newbs and to give tips, but it's no fun at all with the actual system.

Also the Voice Chat doesn't seem to show who is talking, last I heard.

Easy Fix: Uber increases the text limit 2x, making it 40 I guess.

Longer Fix: Uber adds many talk functions, including in-game mic calibration, voice chat volume seperate from game volume, and perhaps an option make it voice-activated instead of button. Not to mention a place you can see people talking, like the scoreboard, or the chat corner.

also, the best time to type things is while waiting to respawn.. but if you start typing right after you die, it often deletes partway through

Yeah, pretty much the chat system is buggy as heck and the in-game voice chat doesnt work half the time.

Seriously. Half the time my message craps out halfway because the text chat is atrocious and i can't accurately portray my feelings about the other players mother and how she was last night* in such a short space. And because to cancel a message takes 3 keypresses. And because sometimes it swaps out of the chat box for no reason and ruins my half typed message.

And voice chat is inaudible and hard to even notice if anyone is even using it. There's also no mute or volume control/mod functions.


I intend to give the voice another run next time i play but seriously it's just easier to not bother since nobody ever replies...

Well if that's the case here is some thoughts.

Seems to me that in video games there are 3 levels of communication
1) voice.
2) text.
3) ingame actions.

Voice communication in the game lacks visual aids. I have no idea if I am talking and whether people can hear me. In most other games you get a symbol to convey that you are talking.
The text in the game is pretty standard, no real problem for me.
Team fortress 2 does some great things with using ingame actions to such as saying thank you, or telling the team to move up. Or more importantly shouting for help.

Dear god, the voice activated idea is horrible. You want to hear people randomly screaming about wanting to kill you and rape your skull? You want to hear people smashing thier fists into the desk screaming obscure obsenties at their monitor? What is WRONG with you?
