So I had a dream a out the game the other night I had a thought about Uber adding like a single spawn (one per galaxy generation) rare Ultamate weapon that had like 5-10 missiles that could destroy a star (and there for the planets of the system). Like a very rare find in the game but also limited in amunnition so you have to plan it's use wisely. Thinking along the lines of the missles like the one fome the movie Star Trek: Generations. Just a wish that would be super awesome if it is achevable to add to the game.
Obviously this is limited to the metagame. As a way of saying "Fight there? Nope. Not today." to get out of stages in the GW, it might work.
This seems a lot like a metal planet, check out some of the threads on those there are a lot of interesting concepts (Giant pac-man planet for example) but a giant superweapon that is just lying in the game? I would prefer it be more like a metal that eats asteroids then spits them out, with dire consequences for the enemy (pac-man). imagine that, a planet spitting asteroids at you.
Could just be tied into the abilities of a metal planet...something that takes a lot to power up but can be used to destroy a star or two
I don't feel like such a weapon should exist without side effects of owning it. To be able to destroy an entire solar system is very advantageous to the extreme. It would have to be counteracted with some detrimental side effect to yourself. Such as, your location of this weapon is broadcasted constantly to all the other players, inevitably spurring counterattacks against it.
I don't think this should be in the game... that being said if it were, I think it should... 1. ...take forever to charge up 2. ...while it is charging, it sucks all the power out of your economy leaving you defenseless. 3 ...you can only charge it while in possession. 4. ...you must relinquish possession to stop charging it. 5. ...throughout the game, any charge will remain in the device and anyone can pick up where the last occupant left off.
Nonetheless, I believe the metal planet will be an artifact. Which...is kinda disappointing. I was hoping it could be something a player could build. Fighting on top of a super weapon while it is in use is very cool...very...cool. But I feel that if there is one, there should be the insanely expensive option of building one...or there should be more than one. A solar-system destroyer is simply too powerful to be correctly balanced for an enjoyable gameplay. Something like a moveable planet has range and speed limitations. It is essentially the ultimate experimental. But one that can be fought on top of and take away. Very cool. And more easily balanced.
in master of orion there was something called the omega cannon that fired a destabilizing beam into the local star that in turn would melt a planet, turning it into a barren, radioactive rock. You could have a scaled down version that'd make a surface searing megaflare, vaporise anything on the sunside, EMP shutdown everything on the other side, but leave it relatively unscathed. That really should create massive storms and if you've just boiled away half of a planets ocean you're going to end up with massive quakes from the redistribution of mass and all that, but frankly I can't think of anything (short of a nova) that's more destructive than the awe inspiring thought of a star flaring off staggering quantities of plasma. God, other games you got poxy little super weapons like nukes that don't even wipe out half of the stuff in a screen (or leave some buildings standing) and PA has the potential for over the top awesomeness on par with master of orion 2.
Or perhaps it could be something you could make. Massively expensive, of course, but then you could counteract that metal planet superweapon by causing that emp blast to temporarily disable it. Of course you would want to fire it while on the dark side of the planet. I very honestly believe there should be something the player can make for massive cost that counteracts the metal planet.
Brilliant idea, to take command of a metal planet, one must fight his commander to a gate on the world, and remain there for a set number of minutes without being destroyed. While the commander is in the gate, the metal planet should be "disabled", and to take back control, simply kill the commander in the gate.
One strategy for a commander not on the metal would be to just ****** it all and launch large asteroids at the thing. Totally removing the threat from the more powerful players battling over it. I would do that just to save myself the hassle of fighting to the death on the planet. Plus it would be pretty fireworks.
please god no. i dont mind if there or themed maps/gameboards, matter of fact im all for it. But not for all galaxies. This would turn the entire game into a race for the gun.
