Basically seeing as I'm quite new to the whole xbox deal, I have without luck tried to get my NAT from strict to open.

My setup goes: Modem(with a built in router) > router(cuz of wireless and portzz) > switch(not configurable, so no probs there) > xbox

I've opened the necessary ports on my router and modem as well as turned on uPnP, my xbox got a static ip for them obviously, but it made me think that the static ip goes to the router, not the modem, so instead of configuring the modem for the router, I just hooked it directly up to my xbox, did the new static ip and voil, the ports should be opened! Although my xbox doesn't seem to agree with that, so I'm hoping that there is some hidden secret that I'm overlooking as I seem to be clueless at the moment. :)

Yeah, I have no idea about it too.

On Xbox, my NAT is usually open, but when I play PS3, it's moderate. TEH EFZ

Sometimes mine goes to moderate. What I do is , goto system and do a test xbox live. This usually fixes the nat type to open, for me atleast.

I get strict alot, what works for me is I..

-On Xbox go to System Settings -> Network Settings
-Press Y (disconnect) on my wireless router's icon
-Go to my router and unplug (then plug in again after 15 seconds ish)
-Go back to network settings on Xbox and click on my router when it shows up
-It asks me to re-enter my WPA key, so I do
-It tests connection to router then to Xbox Live
-Now I have an open NAT

Works for me, but might not for you. You might have to fiddle around with the UnPnP and/or DMZ settings once logged onto your router, and that I cannot help you with :p

My xbox wouldn't get open NAT after any of the port forwards/ upnp either. I had to put it in the DMZ to get open NAT.

I'm confused about the static IP stuff you listed... with static you're putting in the IP but it sounds like you're saying the modem or router is handing it out, which is of course not static IP addressing. If you're still having probs I may be able to help, Lemme know.

FYI mine is modem > router > xbox w/static IP in router's DMZ and that works for me all day airday.

Works connected directly through my modem now. The ip for all ports; I put the static ip of my router, and the ip for DMZ server on that router; I put the xbox static ip. All in all, to me that should work, obviously doesn't though. So I'm guessing the router doesn't really comply to what it's allowed? Seeing as it's opening all it's ports for my xBox with the DMZ enabled. I even found a little check box for NAT filtering that seemed to like being hidden, it was on secured, which I changed to open. so if anything, my router should allow pretty much anything on the xbox

Where do I get the WPA key from? Or where do I find it, rather?

this is the part that's confusing me..

First off if you use DMZ then you don't need to use port forwarding; DMZ = forward all ports.

I'm not clear on why you're putting the routers IP in as the forwarding destination. If you're turning on dmz then the dmz server is the Xbox, so put the static IP you gave the Xbox there. The only place for the routers IP should be in the xbox under gateway on the advanced config page.

Modem assigns ip for router. Router isn't working as a switch, but as a gateway. Thus I need to allow all ports for the router by making the DMZ on modem for it, and then allow all ports open for xBox by making a DMZ on router for the xBox. Lots if shizconfusion I know, but as far as the internet tells me, I've done it right. Obviously my xBox still disagrees.

You have to go into the router and enter one on the wireless configuration page, then you enter it into the xbox when you connect it to the network. Getting into the router is different with each model, so Google the make and model + web interface or administration to figure out how to get into yours.
