The one true PSA aka Read this before you post ANYTHING

Just making this thread as it seems we are in need of one. :roll:

Before you post a new topic:

0. Proof read your ideas before you post.
We can't understand anything if you write like a 12 year old. As well as this, think about your ideas; Are there any obvious problems with them?

1. Make sure that it has not been posted before in a recent time span.

To make it easier, I will compile a list of discussion ideas that have been around for a while and their current status:
[ Localized Economy for each celestial body (Most people think this is a bad idea.)
[ Spaceship Combat (which was confirmed to be NOT to be in the game.)
[ Weather (The consensus is that they should be an effect only and should not affect gameplay at all.)
[ VERY powerful experimental units (The consensus here is OH GOD PLEASE NO.)
[ Multiple factions (There will only be one pool of units at launch. End of story.)
[ Orbits and Planetary Rotations (Celestial bodies can be rotated with rockets. The planets do move, though to what extent is unknown. It IS know that it will NOT be complex physics.)
[ Gritter graphics (The art style is fine. It is not changing.)

If your idea is not on that list, look here and check it is not there.

If your idea is not on that list OR mentioned here, check to see if it has already been talked about. By 'check', I don't mean 'briefly look at the titles of the threads found on the first page'. I mean 'Read the OP of every thread in the first 5 pages'. It pays to be aware.

2. If you have a poll, KISS.

By 'KISS', I mean 'Keep It Super Simple'. Explain your idea and why you think it should be in the game, providing you have followed step 1. No one wants another thread about weather when there have been numerous ones already.
Make sure the poll has three options at most - 'Yes', 'No', and 'Maybe' (where they explain what needs improving). Polls shouldn't favour one side OR have too many options.

3. Don't throw around 'The Scathis Quote' when trying to discredit ideas that are realistic to some extent.

Read "Realism vs. Awesome" to understand what I mean.

4. Understand what 'Micro' is before you use it as a cat-o'-nine-tails.

Read "Defining micro" to understand what I mean.

There you have it. A comprehensive list of what to do and what NOT to do. Use it well.
Tell me if I should add anything/remove something from the list. I would hate to be inaccurate about something.

Forget about the search function, it's useless.

Well, it does work, but you can only do ONE search every 60 seconds, this includes showing more results for the previous search. To bad that only 10 results will be displayed each time, so you will have to wait another 60 seconds to see the next 10 results for your search query.

Try searching for a common topic and it will fail.

Throw the "I want grittier graphics" in there.

seems to have needed an expansion though.

The 'xedi' link has been added along with the status of different graphics.

Actually that one isn't quite right. There will be a single pool of units, but that doesn't necessarily mean a single faction. I think that was mentioned in the totalbiscuit interview, or perhaps during the livestream. It was definitely one of the videos. At the time Uber weren't entirely sure how they were going to handle factions.

There's only 38 pages of threads, shouldn't take you that long. Chop chop.

Changed the comment about factions and changed what I say about checking the topics in the first 5 pages.

This is just some early hype after the KS. Give it a month or to and things will calm down rapidly.

And if things get fucked up badly, we still have alpha and beta to complain

Maybe, but this is still very annoying for those who have seen these things happen again and again and again.

For anyone else reading this, this post (which may or may not be a necro post) is an attempt to bring the PSA back to the front page and stop this madness before it continues.

Bumping without actual content is like some kind of internet sin.

It'd be like me posting in my art thread just to say "look at my art yo" without posting anything new.

Sorry, Mike. It just seems that no one is learning that there is ALREADY a post about x, or that a poll is not needed for y.

You must be new to the Internet........

It's gonna happen, that's just how it is, believe me, people never read stickies and such before posting, the best we can hope for is a good core community to help guide the new people.
