Hi guys, firstly I'd like to apologise for asking this of you but there are some knowledgeable people here and I'm not really part of any other PC gaming communities currently. Basically i bought the PC game Empire Total War few years ago after enjoying Medieval Total War and Medieval 2 TW. got it home that day, booted it up and nothing happened, after a few days of fiddling I figured maybe my PC wasn't capable of running it and left it to collect dust on a shelf. Now to the current... the other day i decided to get steam up and going due to PA, and saw the only other game in "my collection" was E:TW, figured id give it a go, and hey presto it worked. played it for 10 hours or so with no problems. Went to jump into it to continue the game i started, and it wont start up past the first screen (for those familiar with the game the blue background with the bink video logo at the bottom). Basically it sits on that screen, and then after 30 seconds or so the PC freezes up. if i leave it long enough the PC reboots. this is the same behaviour it exhibited when i first purchased it. Can any of you guys think of something that would cause this behaviour? 'cause I'm stumped. My PC is as follows (i acknowledge its a little old in the tooth now but it did run the game successfully once): Intel Core i7 870@2.93Ghz 8GB RAM Win 7 Home Premium Nvidia Geforce GTX 465 (current drivers - E:TW worked on drivers from January, updated drivers after it didn't work today)
I'm far from an expert, I just googled stuff and it seems like a common problem. Have you tried reinstalling? If not clear the scripts from the following location might help if followed by a reinstall C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts" Strange that it worked for you once off though. But this appears to be a common problem and the above is the common solution.
