It seems when on an edge and charge, I'll go crazy far, but if I use it any were else I'll go to inches. It really doesn't make sense I go further on an edge. It should always go the same set distance, shouldn't it?
I do notice that I go really far on a charge sometimes, it happens a lot when I first charge out of the base at the start of the game. It seems like when you charge off of a ledge you carry your momentum with you even if the charge was just about to end. This is probably intended.
