One of the things that would make orbital camping less effective and make breaking sieges more viable, is possibly for stronger astraeuses. Discuss. Do you think the astraeus should have more health (cost as well ofc), and/or do you think the orbital factory should have a t2 astraeus with more health? I understand having an intentionally tanky transport leads to drop-snipes, but honestly they weren't too bad. Also, this could synergize with an intentionally tanky fabricator as well. We really don't need 2 combat fabricators for instance, take the t2 combat fabricator, leave the name and all, but just make it a 1200 health expensive fabricator with the basic fabrication bot stats and buildables. Fairly sure it isn't possible right now, but it would be amazing if we had also had a fabricator that ran off the ammo system. Imagine, one that can lay 3000 metal at once in construction, at the cost of 60000 energy per 3000 metal, but has a "drain" of 20 energy and store of 60000. That way, it would have to recharge between uses but could instantly fabricate things. Real useful for landings, such as amassing flak towers instantly, and a teleporter drop.
A hardened Astraeus generally would be very useful; I've seen more than a few commanders [attempt to] land from orbital, only for the Astraeus to be 1-hit from an enemy commander below. Might make orbital drops more feasible; as it stands, a bunkered down enemy can take almost anything you throw at them I was thinking today of something like a "hardened" drop gate - literally fired like a nuke, it lands a fully functional (smaller, narrower, but more HP) onto the target, ready to go.
I personally think give the Astraeus a little more health, but not much more. But in order to make it a viable drop attack delivery (and I've never seen anyone bother trying lately), if it gets destroyed midair, the unit freefalls and can take some impact damage, maybe a 0-50% (100%?) depending how early it got hit? This would mean if you drop right over 10 umbrellas, the units are going to land pretty much wrecked, but if you did it with enough, you could get a viable attack force on the ground, without making umbrella's completely useless at stopping it. Maybe make stronger/T2 units take less damage falling? It would be an new/odd game item to have units falling onto planets, but I think it would be a good way to help break up over defended planets by force.
I think this would be excellent. Any transport killed in orbit is killed with transport, but make a scaling system where once it reaches below the orbital layer, it will simply land below if transport destroyed and will take 50% damage (percent because it scales with commander).
