As was discussed in jables' thread on the new build yesterday, I discovered some problems in the System Designer. There are at least four different problems I've identified, and I can reliably replicate three of them. I've written descriptions of the problems, steps to recreate the problems for the three I can, and workarounds for some of the problems. I've included a zipped file with four planetary systems showing the blown out metal spots and/or CSGs for you to examine if you need (I think the Gamma System 2 one is pretty interesting looking, so that one might be good to load just for fun). I've also included my DxDiag report. Please let me know if you need anything else from me. The problems: A. CSGs will not render if a player clicks EDIT CSG before they have otherwise been rendered. B. Metal spots will not appear if a player has EDIT METAL SPOTS on during the planet's first render. C. Metal spots can render off of the planet's surface. (See picture one at bottom of post) D. CSGs can render off of the planet's surface. (See picture two at bottom of post) Problem Descriptions: A. If a player clicks EDIT CSG, the planet renders, but unless the CSGs were already rendered via "Preview Terrain" or "Preview Terrain and Gameplay", CSGs will not appear. However, it's possible to make them appear later. B. If a player clicks EDIT METAL SPOTS before rendering the planet in any way, and then renders the planet while that button is on, it seems that they never appear on the planet. After doing this, I've tried to get them to spawn on various planet types but have been unable to. C. Following the steps I'll provide later, the metal spots get stuck in space and no longer attach themselves to the planet's surface. D. There is a way to make CSGs float in space in the same way as the metal spots in problem 3. Although I've been able to get this to happen a few times, I have not figured out the exact steps to get it to happen every time. Steps to recreate the problems: A. Bring up System Designer Click New System Select a Planet Template Place the planet Click EDIT PLANET Turn on EDIT CSG and allow to render There should be no CSGs. Turn off EDIT CSG and allow to render There should now be CSGs on the planet. B. Bring up System Designer Click New System Select a Planet Template Place the planet Click EDIT PLANET Turn on EDIT METAL SPOTS Click "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" and allow to render There should be no metal spots. Turn off EDIT METAL SPOTS Click "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" There should be no change. Adjust the Radius Click "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" and allow to render There should still be no metal spots. If a player renders the planet via EDIT CSG, the same thing occurs. C. Bring up System Designer Click New System Select a Planet Template Place the planet Click EDIT PLANET Increase Radius (700 or more is fine) Increase Height Range (80+) Turn on EDIT CSG and allow to render Turn on EDIT METAL SPOTS Turn off EDIT METAL SPOTS Turn off EDIT CSG and allow to render Decrease Radius (400 or less is fine) Click "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" and allow to render You should now see floating metal spots around the planet. D. As I wrote above, I'm not sure how to replicate this problem even though I've done it three times. Workarounds: A. Before using the EDIT CSG button, render the planet via either the "Preview Terrain" or "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" functions. This will force CSGs to spawn. B. Before using the EDIT METAL SPOTS button, render the planet via the "Preview Terrain and Gameplay" function. This will force metal spots to spawn. C. Don't use both the EDIT CSG and EDIT METAL SPOTS buttons at the same time. D. I have none at this time. Screenshots of problems C and D: Picture one Picture two
I will post this very quickly, I'm not sure if it's in this post but... My map Tug O' War sometimes resets everything based on amount of players, if you want to test it, it will probably only show 4 metal when there is a 5v5 The metal was edited so much that it bugs everything and resets everything sometimes Again sorry if this was in the OP.
I'm not sure if that's similar to something I'd noticed or not. You're talking about changing the number of player spawns on the planetoid while in the Designer? Or the number of actual players while playing a game using that system? If you want, you could attach the "Tug O' War" system to a post here, then I could look at it after I get back from my Thanksgiving event tomorrow (we're doing it the day after this year).
I think it had to do with the amount of metal per spawn. I tried adding metal to each spawn, and it works with a 4v4, but not a 5v5 for some reason. I think if uber disabled the need to have metal in each spawn, there would be no problem.
