Not sure if this goes here or Wishlist forum but... I think that everybody would stop complaining about the firebase if you could only deploy it in friendly territory. The maps are clearly defined, so there's no guesswork as to where you can put it down. With an assassin being my main, I can tell you firebases near the moneyball are sometimes the only thing that stops me from decimating the base. With the current maps, this would still leave plenty of spots for firebases to get kills and do some serious work. I think this is a good idea because it would still keep it's range/rate of fire while solving the problem of plopping it down at an enemy base, overhealing it, and racking up the kills. I rarely play support, so let me know your thoughts on this.
What the what!? You seriously think everyone would stop complaining if you instantly removed 50% of the places support can use their bot. Crazy talk, my friend!
You'd see a lot fewer Support players, I think. I like to take my Firebase to an advanced location (hopefully somewhere sheltered under a bridge) near the other team's bot lanes to try to pinch at least one lane closed. If I've got Firebase upgraded to 3, it also gives my teammates a place to fall back to for a heal if I'm not around. The only place I've personally seen a firebase that seemed too tough to take out was the left-side hallway on LazerRazor. But since it's not going to be racking up a lot of kills without a view on the bots, I'm not THAT concerned with it being there. And if that really bugs me (while I'm playing Support) I'll plant my own there when we get him rooted out.
A guy can dream can't he? I think it would be a good compromise at least. That's what my issue is with it and I think it would be better balanced this way. It's basically another teammate with 100% accuracy and the ability to heal at the enemy's front door. Not to mention that level 3 firebase will basically be a mini base near the enemy's moneyball and will make it almost impossible to destroy when there is more than one pro with it. (and pros do gravitate towards a friendly base that's that far up) I think there's plenty of space to put a firebase on a bot route that's on your side and still get plenty of cover. I can think of at least one spot on every map where you can put a firebase where the two territories meet while still being undercover. I'm thinking about trying this splitscreen with my bro and I only putting bases 1/2 way out and see how it goes. Good input so far, who else agrees/disagrees?
I don't see why you think it needs fixing. It's far from another teammate with 100% accuracy - it's another turret. Teammates can move and fall back to preserve themselves. Teammates will prioritize enemy pros over enemy bots for self-preservation. (Well, good teammates will at any rate.) Turrets follow a specific set of instructions provided by Uber as to when to target who/what and they can't break from it. It's not like a firebase is indestructible. It's extremely vulnerable when initially deployed, and easy to demolish if I'm not there to babysit it. (And frequently even when I am.) A Sniper's upgraded Flak will destroy a firebase. The mortar, grenade launcher and railgun are all good against a firebase - to say nothing of enemy airstrikes. Even sheltering it under a bridge doesn't guarantee safety from those - splash damage from strikes landed just to one side or the other of the bridge destroy them. These have all been done to me, and I've done them myself in turn. The problem is that it takes away at least half of the utility of the Firebase. It can be used as an additional defensive turret, it can be used to try to plug up a bot lane upfield, or it can be used to harry the enemy at their base to keep them distracted and off-balance. It would be like telling Assassins that they can only cloak up to mid-field - once they enter enemy territory, they have to be visible. Or telling Snipers that headshots are only one-hit kills if the enemy is in their territory. I'm exaggerating a little to make the point, but that's an extremely artificial and arbitrary limitation to make.
Yeah, I guess it's my fault for going into detail, but I didn't really want this to be another argument as to why the support/firebase is overpowered. Just an idea. No longer looking for input.
