Ive been faced with this annoying problem a couple of times now but im not sure if its a known feature or whether it was just overlooked and not written into the code.. If i hack a defense turret to 3.3 its possible for my n00b teammate to come along and DERATE it with their inferior hack to a 3.2 or 3.1. Why on earth they do that i have no idea but its happening and its annoying. Is the dehack bit known and a feature? i would think its more 'realistic' to have it so you can get it to a maximum but not derate it but then again how can anything be realistic in a game where you shoot the crap out of a big yellow guy in tight green shorts hoping that he'll drop some bacon.. :ugeek:
This is a by-product of the fact that hacks wear off. Since hacks wear off they give you the ability to hack a turret before it completely becomes "unhacked". This is actually quite useful and I'm glad they included it. It's unfortunate that your Support team mates don't seem to understand how hacks should work but it's not a design flaw.
Actually it is a design flaw as lower level hacks should never override higher level ones. If a lower level hack wants to use their skill they can find an available turret or wait for the higher one to expire. If a higher level hack tries to override the lower one it should be allowed. The idea is to prevent basic mistakes so the game should help players learn, not teach them bad habits. Similarly the game should not allow Long Shot turrets to be built in certain areas but again that is a design flaw regardless of what the developers say.
I disagree that it is a design flaw to allow lower level hacks. Let's say that you hacked a Lazer turret to lvl 3 and left it. Another support notices that the hack is almost done and there is a rush coming down the ramp so they go to reapply their hack but they only upgraded to lvl 2. In this case they would have to wait for the hack to completely run out which means they may not have time to hack it before the rush gets there. Personally I'd rather have a full lvl 2 hack on it than 10 seconds of lvl 3 and then nothing. It's just part of the new player learning curve that you shouldn't rehack a turret to a lower lvl. I think that is a fairly easy to grasp concept that shouldn't take long to figure out. I believe being allowed to build a Long Shot where it can't fire is a design flaw and hope it gets fixed.
humanity is the only design flaw. uber needs to train apes to play this game so i can get some decent team mates.
