Hi all, This will most likely be shot down but i cannot see anything in search relating to it. There is great debate on superweapons for PA at the moment. I was thinking about this and to truely be feared in a game you need more than nukes or asteroids. We need the Total annihilation missile. This would take an incredible amount of ingame resources and time to construct and launch. What will this missile do exactly?..... Make the sun go nova. At this point you are say looking at the screen like :roll: but in all seriousness this could work and be balanced (Maybe not). Its will use "Future tech" that subverts all known science and breaks physics to make this idea work. If launched at the sun it will travel deep into the core When at the core this missile will attract all the vaporized iron to the core building rapidly destabilizing the sun causing a nova, destroying most or all of the solar system leaving a white dwarf in the center and maybe the outermost planets and asteroid fields for whoever is left to fight over. to counter it you will need to construct cheaper faster building mass missiles to stabilize the sun and stop the nova. Just a thought....a crazy crazy thought. Regards Joe
Although the idea of destabilizing a star with very large amounts of iron does have its roots in actual science I think that asteroid bombardment provides just as much practical destructive power in a far more precise and feasible delivery package.
So... one player gets enough resources that they can blow up everything, and the game ends in a draw? Doesn't sound fun to me.
Considering you will have a whole galaxy to play with I would think a supernova is a bit tame. Maybe a black hole that stays there and drags stuff in would be more appropriate.
The galactic war game mode is a meta game of a number of skirmishes. Any game you play is one solar system only, so a star weapon would cause you to draw.
I would like to be able to crash a huge asteroid(like controlling it with some engine to make it move) onto a planet for huge damage(but not destroying the planet... maybe permanent craters like mentioned in some thread about nukes... also nukes for smaller craters would be nice of course). Then bigger weapons to (a) destroy a whole planet (b) destroy a whole solar system Only if there are more planets / more solar system(not destroying "everything" with 1 hit). That really OP weapons should need special resources(building and upgrading a building to access them on a specific locations and building... and this should take very long and tons of resources - also the location should be guarded by very strong AI units and randomly hidden somewhere in hidden places on a planet... -> need to explore first... exploring could be made easier with "scanners" and better units). Amount should be limited... either 1 time unit / for each 1 spot of the resource you control (for planet destroying weapons) or 1 time limit for 1 resource(that is used then completely making you need to find another spot) for whole solar system destroying weapon. Should also take long to build the weapon itself... and be possible to counter it(but cost a lot to counter it... so enemy needs to take down some costly devices you can't just spam to make it impossible for him to kill them all).
