Suggestions: In the first concept trailer of PA I saw some kind of missile launch from what appeared to be catapult launchers towards an incoming asteroid in an attempt to destroy it. I do think this is a good idea to implement as I believe everything needs to have a counter. If the asteroid were to be destroyed then it would break apart and would do damage in a similar way to the rocket boosters falling back on orbital units but on a larger scale. I thought of an idea for a possible T2 anti-missile unit. It would have a single function to shoot down oncoming missiles from catapults and missile defence towers and maybe other projectiles but I feel it would make them overpowered if that was implemented. They would have a reasonably slow rate of fire to account for its function and could be a reasonably weak and slow unit to slow down advances of levellers and or stompers. Sometimes wiping everything out on a planet just isn't enough. Of you have a large asteroid hitting a small planet or a smaller asteroid. You would expect the target to fall apart and not just gain a crater. If a certain ratio between asteroid and target sizes were devised would it be possible to remove a planet from play by using the asteroid crashing into it. It could leave some rocks around which would allow for orbital units to use but disallow use of land units. Maybe different planets could have different affects on units. For instance, if it is an ice planet then maybe units would work slower due to the cold conditions. If its a desert planet then they might have less health or receive more damage due to possible oxidisation of the metal in the units. Lava planets could take the desert one and amplify it. Earth type planets could be a neutral type planet. Apologies if any of these have been suggested but I couldn't find anything on them. Feel free to vary my suggestions to make them a more balanced option or simply hate on them completely. Questions: For the T2 submarine it says in its description something along the lines of Nuke Launcher. I cannot figure out how to use this units feature. Is it not implemented yet or could someone explain how to use it? -STIGY
Uber hasn't said whether they plan to or not to implement those anti astroid missiles. If they were implemented, they'd only mitigate the incoming damage. There's lots of discussions on the forums about anti catapult and artillery units and buildings. I'm predicting they'll be implemented. It is confirmed that smaller astroids won't completely wipe out large planets. The nuke launcher on the sub is not implemented yet.
I'm not sure if there should be a counter to asteroids... It seems to me that if you could get that far undefeated you should be able to blow up your opponent without a problem, as long as you can keep them from escaping the target planet...
Didn't Mythbusters discuss the effect of blowing up an asteroid incoming at Earth, and the general consensus from NASA and related authorities is that it is a pretty bad idea?
Correct. The best way to deal with an asteroid would be to explode a nuke near it to deflect its course to miss earth. not something you can do to self propelled asteroids of course.
That was kinda in-directly the point to that scene in the Visualization really. Although it still ends with a 'planetary annihilation' part of the idea was to show that just exploding the asteroid doesn't stop it. I could in theory help mitigate it's effects, for example an asteroid that might render a planet fully usuable(destroyed) would only cause 'superficial' damage like craters and such to one side of the planet due to the inevitable meteor shower.
