hello, i am just wondering if the submarines will have the ability to dive and surface like they had in supcom..like use the shore gun for un armed units and if they are threatened be able to dive back underwater again?

it would be a shame if they dont add this into a future update

    cheers

I think, they might be submerged all the time.

No, they call them Submarines because they are filled with tasty meat.

Yes, they'll probably be able to submerge.

Underwater pathing systems aren't yet implemented. Units that were submerged would either be unable to move at all, or not collide with terrain at all and be subterranean, or, my personal favorite, fly straight out of the naval factory into space.

So, for now, submarines just float around like boats.

you missed out the point...the ability to change between being underwater and on the surface

Awww but submarines in space would be great for taking on celestial units (Resisting urge to call em Spacemarines cos Games Workshop in the UK think they own that name)

I left my post vague purposefully because I don't know. I just know that Subs will be able to be under water.

The specific ability to manually dive / surface has been a topic of conversation on a few occations, but we haven't made any final decisions and won't until we've added the ability to submerge in the first place. We also need to get orders for unique abilities in to the UI and command system, like moving the commander's Uber cannon off of the attack command and on to an explicit "attack with uber cannon" command.

Once those are in we can start experimenting with options like tying surface to other commands (launch missile, attack land location, etc) instead of explicit surface.

So basically you're looking to have it be more contextual rather than as a toggle like it was in SupCom? That'd be great, the Toggle setup in SupCom had lots of little not so great quirks that made it frustrating to use.

    I am reminded:

Professor Hubert Farnsworth: Good Lord! That's over 5000 atmospheres of pressure!
Fry: How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: Well, it was built for space travel, so anywhere between zero and one.

Actually, no. Submarines are specifically built to withstand pressures *above* one atmosphere; you need to build something in a completely different way to withstand hypo-atmospheric pressures than you do to make it withstand multi-atmospheric pressures. So they would basically be torn apart in space.
