Unlike all the other layers, Orbital units can stack up over each other to absurd degrees in some circumstances. The moment it's launched, and the moment it arrives in the orbital layer, there's no shuffling to make room. Similarly, attacking orbital units can stack up indefinitely. Note how a move command makes a squad spread out as intended, but attacking a unit lets them all take up optimal space.

Once units need to spread out, SXX's aren't as painfully OP, since they can't all snipe the same unit, at best they're spread out and can do a spectacular raid on a base.

Yeah I find this very frustrating as well, only just started playing with orbital despite playing back in alpha!

This frustrates me so much…trying to select that one Astraeus in a big blob of Avengers to evacuate my commander form a doomed base is quite difficult.

Yep I've gone over this as well :p Stacking also makes controlling orbital units a bit cumbersome as well.
