They've been promised, practically since before the release of the PC version.

Even with the free weekend and sparse updates that kept the community somewhat struggling to stay alive, the game's going to die completely before the end of June unless something is done to get people interested again.

No map or tweak you can release will do that. People have to be interested in the game for them to care about those. Comprehensive mod tools are different. You put the power in their hands.

Hell, it's probably already too late. Depending on how far the game's dropped off the radar the modding community's probably already passed on.

    Here's what I understand:

They were originally going to release them, but were too busy with PAX and such and ultimately wound up being a more difficult project than they imagined. And now that they have time, they can't make them because they are currently in a big game engine update which nullifies everything else.

Modding tools could have prolonged this game's life significantly, but... I'd say it had a good run. I bought this game twice and it's still the best value I've ever gotten.

As I said in another thread, I've actually seen PLENTY of new players recently. They seem to enjoy the game, so we should have another couple months out of this wave of players.

Not to mention, I'm not quitting this game, same with a large number of people on this forum, and a large number of regular pubbers I've seen in the game that don't frequent the forums.

The game won't die completely for a good long time. I really just want the tools before Christmas. And we need the engine shift first.

This so-called "new wave" must include absolutely no european players, then. I found the server browser empty this morning. Checking to view full servers only caught two full servers, one of them three star restriction, the other with an unplayable 200+ ping.

At least in one area of the world, the game cannot be played in multiplayer mode outside of peak times, and that's disgusting.

I live in California and there are plenty of times throughout the day when there is literally 1 server and that is VIP restricted...

I think that people would still be playing this game if it werent for all the cheap ways to die, the bugs, and the OPness of snipers
maps might revive mnc, but the problems that make ppl abandon it are still there

Mods tools aren't limited to just mapmaking.

At least, they shouldn't be if anything from the old mod tools topic is to be believed.

Don't know why people are insisting mods will save the game. Mods are just a distraction and if people aren't satisfied with the basic core of the game, no amount of gimmicky mods or community maps will change that.

Mods keep a game from getting stale. All the people I talked to left because there were only 5 maps. It won't bring people back, but it WILL help future player retention.

    Yup.

But I'm still here because those few are so enjoyable. Even so; more maps, more advertisement, bugfixes, engine update.

    It will take a while...

If people leave because of a dearth of maps, adding a few more will only keep them around for another week. People either like the game or they don't. Mods won't change that; only make the game more enjoyable for those who do.

No. Mod tools add far more than a few maps. They add server settings, reskins, gamemodes, and much much more. Lack of content was the problem, and mod tools instantly fix that for any game. Everything that would be a waste of Ubers time to make is now doable.

    Kinda my thought process.

I mean I know they did not think they could create a decent amount of maps on a scale that would keep players from the beginning. That is why they were intending to release mod tools early but ran into complications.

At least the engine update is their main focus and they actually read the forums.

Yeah, but they also said the engine update would need over 6 months or so, when they release the mod tools after the engine update, there won't be any community left to mod anything.

This is my main fear. I personally think they should just slam out some Xbox DLC to not be in bad faith with their biggest community, then get moving on another game where they will be much more prepared.

I was under the impression that the Xbox was getting the updates after the engine shift.
