Personally i think it's perhaps the worst map in history of gaming. The other 3 are fantastic but i can't remember the last time i had fun on SteelPeel, it's usually even the reason we stop playing MNC for the night. The entire map is to open and to straightforward, it just really feels like it's a last minute job as opposed to the other 3 maps wich play nice and have a good flow. Another glaring problem is that 4 Turret nubs can be sniped from base to base and all turrets can be very easely taken out without ever stepping in their Line of Sight Basically it's one big meatgrinder and it desperately favours certain classes over others. Dunno, perhaps it's just me and everyone i talked to but it's not making MNC anymore fun, quite the opposite infact. So what do you all think about Steel Peel?
I think it is way too compact...as the above poster said snipers love it. Now im all for snipers sitting in their base sniping from it but this place is too much. You can have 2 snipes on each doorway take out all your turrets and kill you as you leave your base over and over. Yeah you can roll assassin and go get them but there aren't even any lanes to push so thats not very fun. Needs a few more glass walls or something or just a complete overhaul imho.
I really enjoy Steel Peel. I don't "love" it, but I can say it's my 2nd favorite map in MNC right now. If it means anything I play Assault mainly and Tank secondary. I also have two completely different strategies for each class for this map.
Steel Peel would be fine if they simply blocked the lower level spawn to spawn line of sight. Heck, they don't even need to block the actual sight, just toss in a few glass plates so that the Snipers need to be in the center area (either up above or down below). The only other issue is how Long Shots are completely useless and players still build them like their life depends on it. It would be so much easier if Long Shots were not allowed to be built on certain nubs but alas that would ruin the 'strategy' of the map according to the devs. Better to allow mass ignorance I guess.
The real reason is that it would be a pain in the *** to code in a clean way (i.e. not just "if (map == Steel Peel) {}"). It's not a simple change to make. Also I hate steel peel. Such a thing as "sniper spam" should not be allowed to exist. I swear snipers can just tape down the trigger and walk away, then come back later with 100 bot kills and 20 pro kills.
Ooh steel peel, Im bashing LT to skip in my mind just at the thought of that map. As soon as a support gets his firebase to the bridge where the launchpad takes you out of the spawn, its hell. Especially when hes got a sniper and a gunner adding to the pain and protecting it. Plus the nooks and crannys where supports camp with firebases. Ugh, steel peel...
it completely favors the ranged classes sniper assault and gunner because they can see u trying to get close enough to be effective. and half the time with a suppport ur airstrikes will hit the vaulted roof essentially robbing u of any ranged attacks. i always mess around on this map cuz frankly its not worth trying with my normal tank class
I like it a lot more than Ammo Mule. For those with trouble taking the firebase on the bridge, spawn as a support and airstrike it.
I don't want to sound stupid, but which one is Steel Peel again? All the maps just seem to blur together to me and i can never remember which is which. Edit: Just looked it up, i like that map alot lol. As an assassin i get a TON of bot kills, and smoke bomb jumping behind tanks and gunners trying to get the high ground on the platforms near the base will never get old.
I really don't understand the hate for steelpeel. I also don't understand how people can hate on that map but not ammo mule. Ammomule is the one I think is completely rotten. At least steelpeel has some nice high walls, pillars, nooks and cranny's and a few secret paths. Ammomule is on big open sniper/gunnerfest. Really, being a gunner on ammomule is simple, and having turrets on the map is pointless. Supports are fairly useless, their firebase easily able to be ranged (unless they're in the middle area, but they're essentially useless for lane pushing and thus worth ignoring.) People say stelpeel is really easy for supports but I disagree. There's no spot that can't be airstruck or ambushed at close range. It's open enough that if I meet anyone out in the open without my firebase I'm pretty much dead. Overall I'd play steelpeel 3 times in a row over playing ammomule once.
I posted a thread about it in the Strategy forum, so I feel folks' pain. I'm not sure how I feel, entirely. I know that I'm never eager to play a round on Steel Peel. But I also know that a lot of the time, I'll play an Assassin on that map. I don't care how many other Assassins our team has, I won't play something else on Steel Peel. (I've had days where I felt like I needed a cloak just to get out of the spawn.) Other times, I'll play Support and just work on base defense. I love gunners/tanks who deploy on the bridges overlooking our base on those days - easy air strikes. But I don't see the map going away, and I have no idea how much work it would be to change it so I'm trying to just get used to it.
Steel Peel is not my favourite map, but it's fine. The only thing I really dislike is getting pinned down by snipers. They can be dealt with, especially if you have someone else harassing them so you can get in for the kills. I'm amazed how often my firebases survive, because I airstrike opposing ones as soon as I can get away with it. That being said, I usually vote to skip.
Steel Peel in my opinion is the best map. It's the most action packed, and the condensed space actually makes it better. It sure beats LazeRazor.
steel peel is a much larger map than lazerazor there are just fewer paths. also do u call spawn camping from the second level action? just wondering cuz thats how most steelpeel games end up.
Ammo Mule is the best map in the game. It and LazeRazor actually have great strategy too it. And too the guy who said that supports don't do good on that map. I am an 85 avid Support and that is easily the most balanced map. It sucks for Assassins, thats it, but what map favors them? If I would have to choose, i would say it favors Support and Gunner the most. I just hate how the middle area is so easy to camp with firebases. That leaves Bullseye and the Juice in an area people can no longer get to. Also turrets are pretty useless at the beginning but they are great late game to prevent bot rush. That middle area is a huge issue because it is partially closed off and you can't airstrike them very easily. If anything, I think the top should be way more open. It would limit supports a lot. Steel Peel is a joke, putting up turrets quickly ends up being a waste of money because Snipers take them out immediately. Snipers and firebases can easily shut down the main jump pad. All you need to do is put a few traps right where they land and they are screwed. Then you are forced to take the incredibly risky ground root which usually gets you killed by Gunners on the upper level. Don't get me wrong, I love playing on this map simply because as a Support it's so damn easy. You can put a Firebase behind one of the center pillars and the other team can not take it out if the Support is near.
