Steam is auctioning off games between December 15th and December 18th! The auctions are paid for in "gems", a steam-specific currency gained from turning community items (trading cards and other collectables) into gems from the inventory screen. Every 45 minutes, the highest bidder will win the game and a new round of bidding takes place. If you bid but don't win, your bid remains for the next round automatically (but can be cancelled). Bidding has already opened for the first round! 100 copies of Planetary Annihilation are up for grabs! Current highest bid is 12,000 gems. 14k gems for PA right now. What is this? How do people get that many? Are they just buying them with real money? I have about 300 gems right now, if I empty my inventory I might have over a thousand. Good thing it says that gems can still be used and made after the auction, for make totally useful booster packs. Yay. Well, I'm not winning any games soon.
