This is inspired by that SupCom Check-in thread, I'm really interested in how many players/modders/developers from the Spring Community are here, if you are here then hope you will sound off. I was a XTA player back in the era of Swedish Yankspankers and majorly plays Zero-K nowadays. PA looks like a very innovative RTS, but there is also a lot of design risk with that, really hope the outcome will be great!
I didn't really bother with Spring until after posts on these forums convinced me to try ZK. But whatever.
I started playing Spring 1944. (World War 2 game) because I really longed for a game with advanced physics, large armies, realism, and less projectile dodging. For years I remained true to S44. But then I got seduced again by robotic warfare, projectile dodging and fast micro. I play mostly NOTA and Zero-K now.
Balanced Annihilation! Love it, still play it. My favorite LAN party game, of the TA/Supcom/*A family. Delta Siege Dry, and Folsom Dam for life! I really think this BA gameplay showed that focusing on two techs levels provides better game play than the tech race.
Hearing the recent announcement of Planetary Annihilation got me back into Balanced Annihilation, which I've been playing 1v1 matches of extensively. I don't play Zero-K(Complete Annihilation as I once knew it.) because hearing about the implementation of player progression and unlocks put me off of it. I haven't got back into Supreme Commander just yet.
I thought about posting here then forgot... I have been "playing Spring" for about 6 years. This was a bit of BA at the start and various other games. The introduction of Lua let many people make "minimod" games which would explore RTS in varied and interesting ways. I enjoyed these games as well as testing out whatever new game people released. About 5 years ago I entered CA development which turned into Zero-K about two years ago.
Checking in. Pre-ordered this today, looks like it is going to be a worthy successor. I´v been playing TA-derived mods on the Spring engine since somewhere in 2007. Mostly Balanced Annihilation. I really hope the PA devs manage to include the amazing degree of control that I know from Spring.
