"abandoned", lawl. The entitlement in demanding support from a game that is in itself already a game is brilliant. The only issue I'd have with it is the price. Beyond that, the developers can do whatever they want with the game. Double Fine seem to have spread themselves thin though, bearing in mind projects such as this one started out as a tiny little thing they thought they'd do on the side as a simple kind of game. I don't think it was ever intended to be anything more.
Well at least Rimworld is still going strong. I always thought Rimworld was a better game anyways so no huge loss to me but I do feel bad for those you bought it. This is always a risk you're taking when buying an early access game though.
And releasing the entire workings of the game to the community, among other things. But sure, let's focus on the negative. I mean, it's stated to be an Early Access Game. You pay for the game, knowing that. They're not beholden to anything with regards to "completing" the game. Then again, I'm probably biased. You probably shouldn't read the responses Tim Schaefer got posting on the Steam forums, it'd probably bias you against consumers as well
If it isn't actually abandoned, you are making a bold statement and dangling some troll bait out in open waters of the internet when you use the word "abandoned". Abandon is what you do with a child. However, when a child grows up and can take care of itself, it may be 16 years old or 24. Regardless of which, if it reaches the point of taking care of itself, that is just what it is. Hopefully their community has the access and interest to keep progressing on the game's lifespan.
Now I could be wrong here, but DF9 is not a sentient life form capable of adapting to its environment and growing on its own.
Neither is being physically unable to work on a game due to money problems, after investing their own money into continuing it, and providing the entire source to the community . . . abandonment. If we were to continue this interesting analogy (I'm never a fan of analogies), the source code would be the infrastructure for support for the person, and the community would be the people that populate that support system and utilise it to help others.
I dont see other people´s problems with the word abandoned. The developer does not make enough money off it to justify it´s further development. So it´s being abandoned.
