Just wondering if the devs have any plans to release some of the more critical tools we need for putting new models (with animations/movable parts) into the game and working with our own servers... Are they putting modding on the backburner for a few years or what?
The developers will continue to support the game for the foreseeable future. But new animations/units are unlikely.
It is possible to put in our own models. RCBM and Statera mods have both done it. I desperately want our own servers for massive games and word on the street is we won't have those anytime soon. :-(
Technically, they put modders ahead by releasing server hooks before the server itself. Technically, they released a tool to convert to and from .PAPA. So technically, there is very strong evidence against the OP post.
For units with no animations, it's doable via raevn's PAPA exporter. The only way (afaik) to get animations into the game is to go from 3DS Max --> FBX --> PAPA. However, I haven't been able to get that to work. It's probably a case of some strange hidden setting.
I'm sorry but making the community figure out how to do basic things like put models + animations in the game (no animations yet) as well as not even having access to local servers is pretty damn limiting. I'm worried that now that the game is "released" the development of modding tools is going to be non-existent... perhaps uber is finished with PA and will leave the community to hack in basic functionality? Sigh
I guess you missed the memo about the PA team coming into development with the idea of having everything set up for modders to work with instead of *us* having to hack in basic functionality. (animations are BASIC)
