Snipers are the only class in the game, besides the tank, that has an effective long range weapon and are the only class in which one shot can almost always result in a kill. The only way to kill them is to counter snipe them because the assassins grapple does not work with their freezing traps and most likely if you try to spray at them at range you will get killed first. Counter sniping is also by difficult by their small body size and their ability to shoot with almost none of their body open to fire. This has made the game almost unplayable for me. Please comment and correct me if I am wrong.

That's not the only way to kill them. Mid range is weak so they are susceptible to Assault and Gunner...the Tank secondary works if the sniper is a moron. ...but basically the launchers and main weapon for both assault and gunner can take down the sniper from a comfy middle range... It should be noted that a "good" sniper will be prepared for this, though...

Sniper themselves aren't that bad...the grapple, however, is another story.

Aside from Ice Traps and their not only overpowered but unfairly Knockback effecty grapple, I have no real beef with any of their stuff, AND I PLAY ASSASSIN.

I'd LOVE to say that Snipers are overpowered...

But then I tried to play one.

It takes skill to nail headshots. Even on a gunner, so long as they're moving. And while scoped in, a Sniper gives up almost all situational awareness.

I do agree that the ice traps and grapple could use some tweaking, but I don't think the balance is off by that much.

Flak softens them up while you get in a decent smg range as far as assault goes, For gunner, just dance around and take him out slowly but surely, Both at the same time Is Just take out the gunner first, then the assault, usually with the smg if you have trouble aiming, like me.

You're not playing your class right. Learn your role. You just suck., I like Sniper so it's not overpowered. Headshots FTW!

Did I cover all the usual counter arguments?

Alter traps, reduce grapple damage+throw back distance and the sniper is fine

I wouldn't even reduce both, just one or the other. The damage makes sence as does the knockback, just not at the same time.

    How about this:
    Level two grapple does damage...
Level three does the "throw" (or vice versa).
This way the player could pick which they want (I prefer the throw)

Nah if you're gonna"Upgrade" you expect something better, I'm just saying the knockback should not be AS FAR.

Really they are a well thought out class, but being golfswung after being in the general vicinity of a ice mine detonation not only ACROSS the level but OFF IT kinda seems a bit much, honestly it should hurt like hell, but the ringout potential is too good/certain. I just think toning it down would be fine, not killing it altogether.

Playing against Sniper, as an Assassin i had always thought they were overpowered in many ways. Also playing AS a Sniper i still have to stick to my argument saying they are over powered. My first three matches = 21-1, 17-0, 42-2. As a beginner sniper i thought these were extremely easy to achieve with little threat to me by other players.

2-3 Traps is over the limit i would think. As playing as a Sniper i would just sit on 1 trap to keep me protected from Assassins, and have 2 others purely as a way to trap other players for easy headshots. at a distance. And draining skills and grapple i have no fear running up to a frozen player, laugh in their face, then OMGBBQSauce Pwn them with my grapple.

Flak seems to be the only balanced part of the sniper. As it does very little damage, easily avoidable, Although it is used to get players out of corners to shoot them. Great against bots.

Grapple is too strong? I have to say it is playing as a Sniper. Laughing at the fact that it is the strongest grapple in the game, plus it has a throw. How the Assassin's main's of attacking is grappling, you would think her grapple would be the strongest? Not so. As a sniper, having the throw ability added with only spending 150$ instead of 550$ is too much. Everyone can easily get the 150$ to purchase the throw. Getting the 550$ will take more time throughout the game to get. Assault's and Gunner's grapple doesn't throw until paying 550$ for the 3rd upgrade.

Penetrating bullets? Getting head shots in the back of the head? Where armor is? This was extremely funny for me as where other classes should have been protected, they really weren't adding much more kills to my career that shouldn't of been.

Playing as an Assassin i thought snipers were a little overpowered.
Playing as a Sniper i think snipers are way overpowered.

I disagree. (Also, Capslock is, after an extensive internet panel of scientists have exhaustively studied and determined, not the cruise control for cool. It's actually the Derp Derp Dog.) I'm great with an SMG-killin' Sniper that uses his rifle for Harassment and the occasional, very dirty 'You harassed me all game and now you're stuck in my ice trap, but a Ring Out Grapple isn't satisfying enough like a point blank headshot is' **** move. The sniper is a great class when I really, really feel like screwing with people.

    Almost too great.

The ice mines should either start recharging -after- they detonate, or give every other class a bunch of extra kaboomgasms. They aren't outright lethal like airstrikes - the outcome of being trapped in one most likely is. (They also can't be destroyed or avoided by hiding under a bridge, because chances are, the f**ker put one there, too.)

I've been on both sides of the fence. I wouldn't say they're overpowered - they just seem to lack any inherent weaknesses other than low armor, but the Assassin and the Support are in that area, too, so it's nothing special.

What would be awesome for a Sniper is, instead of a grapple, he like, Three-Stooges eyepokes you and blinds you for a determined duration - then runs the hell away.

I personally hate snipers in this game and think they are skinny little chickens**t cowards who are afraid to get into the mix up close and personal with me. (I usually play Assault)
Sniper play is just not my style.

I agree with the OP...they are indeed overpowered. I've played against snipers who were literally unapproachable. You couldn't get anywhere near them and they take you out with 1-2 shots.
I've played as a fully upgraded Gunner with the Gold armor endorsement and they take me out in 3-4 super fast shots.

    I can't stand 'em.

Oh boohoo. Snipers die in like one hit. throw **** at them and they die. It's also Very hard to get a head shot.. the "headshot" target is so small most headshots don't even count

Sniper's grapple is probably too powerful, I'd rather if it had the same knock-back but less damage. This way I can give myself some space even if I don't always score a kill (which is a reasonable progression from his initial grapple, where he just spins them around).

I don't think there's anything wrong with the ice-traps as is, just destroy them before you move in or try to find away around/over them.

And there's already a thread about the SMG, so suffice to say it's really useful if you use the right endorsements.

The only two problems with the sniper is that his traps are really hard to spot and the volume sound they make is so low that i can barely hear them (TB x41 headset). For something that powerfull times 3 you should at least have a fair chance of noticing them.

Second is his grapple, it's abit ridiculous.

The whole wet-paper class thing doesn't fly because Gobi gives quite a decent migitation.

But as with every class, a good player will just be a good player regardless of class, but in the case of sniper(and support) some abilities counter way to many others or are to difficult to counter.

You bring up a good point that his traps are hard to find. I play a lot of assault and it's pretty easy to see his bomb because of the way it jitters and makes noise, but if they add something like that to the sniper's trap they'd have to find a way to distinguish the two.
