Right now I believe the ice bomb, unlike every other skill in the game has no valid counter. They cannot be destroyed once deployed, and have a radiust too vast to walk around in most corridors and explode too high to jetpack over. And its effects cannot be ignored as long as quickscoping is possible.

I propose that utilising a movement skill break the ice effect on the indevidual using it.

This Allows for some sort of counter to the ice trap, whiles also maintaining the usefullness of the skill, as a wiley opponent must either save up thier movement for the bomb (increasing the ammount of time the sniper has to combat them). Or risk being ahnihilated by said quick scope whiles they're stunned.

An alternative solution is to allow ice bombs to be destroyable via conventional weaponfire, forcing enemies to waste ammunition, and more importantly, preventing them from concentrating fire on the sniper, thus justifying the usefullness of the bomb.

But they can be destroyed. I know the air strike does.

Edit: Just noticed this was in the PC version. I haven't play it on PC.

Airstrikes pop them in PC, too. Respectfully, I think the Sniper has to have this tool - though I never play snipers - because they're easy to gank, otherwise. With no disrespect intended to the OP, I think this is a case of unadjusted new player. :)

One problem I have, is that they'll proc on more than one person. I thought this was fixed in the spunky cola update, but I've seen it happen a few times on PC

I'm afraid that I do not class a single classes ability to destroy them a 'counter'. Particularly when that class is typically a great distance away from where a sniper is liable to be.

Considering every other ability has a solid counter (jet packing or jumping over a charge, jinking grenades, walking around the compatarivly small area of effect of detpacks/airstrikes). I do not see why a class that has the capacity to 1-shot the majority of others from any range should be except from this trend. Especially when it has the potential to be incredibally deadly.

well, if you say jumping over a charge or dodging a grenade is a counter...

assaults can hover right past freeze traps. tanks and gunners can jumpjet over them.

If multiple people are in it's range when it goes off, they'll all be caught. However, pros that walk into range while the effect is still in place however after the initial set off will only be slowed, not snared.

And to the OP, every class has a way of dealing with ice traps. Any explosive will set them off (including friendly's). Three of the classes have jetpacks allowing them to easily navigate around them, one can jump super high as well as perform a lunge maneuver over them, and the final two classes have attacks hat destroy them easily (flak/airstrike).

Have you played the PC version yet? I was playing it the other day on spunky, and two of my teammates went up the jump pad to the left of our spawn. Shortly after, I followed. The first guy landed on an ice trap, freezing him. When the second guy landed, he got frozen as well. I came up after them and was frozen as well.

Unless "when it goes off" is a substantially long period of time, it sure seemed like it was a rollback from the nerf it got on the 360.

I think the ice mines are rather balanced as they are, they will also disappear if the sniper dies, the few times I have been stuck and killed by them is less then most other deaths.

lol if the sniper didn't have his ice bomb thing he would be useless against good assassins because every time he scopes he would just get back grappled.

Mortars, bomblets from a LVL 3 Product Grenade and the Support's Air Strike can all set them off. Tank, Gunner and Assault can all jump over them. Learn the radius of the traps and you'll see that you can often run around the edges of them.

Ahh, assumed that since precision weapons couldn't destroy them they were invulnerable.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Kind of like how Spys Vs Snipers work? Honestly I see assassins the only real hard counter towards a team of snipers as on the PC version they can just hold down an entire team from long range.I think it's pretty sad only 3 seconds out of spawn and I get headshot back to it once again to meet the same fate over and over. :?

I'm surprised more people don't see this, but I think that the assault is the best counter to the sniper. He's highly mobile, so he can get to where the sniper is quickly, and pretty much any of his skills/weapons are effective against the sniper. On top of that he has the best tool for navigating over ice traps, and he's one of the quicker/smaller targets too.

Yeah, anything explosive can blow up Ice Traps. Mortars, Grenade Launchers, Air Strikes, Assault's C4..

Although already detonated Ice Traps still freeze players who walk into them, and that's not supposed to happen.

    There's plenty of counters.

    Fly over it.

    Attack from a different direction.

    Airstrike it.

    Smoke Bomb jump over it.

    Bomb it.

    Grenade Launcher it.

    Mortar Launcher it....

    List goes on

can blow it up with mortar and grenade launcher, you can fly over it with the assault and attempt to with the gunner or tank, sometimes works, the pc version has the old faulty jump pads on steel peel as well which sucks, hopefully they address the minor issues when released

this was typed before the above post im not changing it all....

Omg yes so much. Usually the only people that can kill me are assaults.

They have tiny heads, and really mobile, have great close range weapons, have weapons that can richochet into your cover, can fly over your traps, charge>grapple, AR obvs has higher DPS then the SMG.

I see a lot of people complaining about one class being more powerful then the other. What really matters is the matchups. Matchups>Tiers.
