I was wondering about building a sniper which focused on trapping enemies and spamming flak bomb. I found that flaks are quite deadly (in level 3) and could kill a pro if used effectively. In this build, SMG is the main weapon. Maybe this is just like another SMG-based sniper, a close range sniper. But this one is more....skill-based.

    Endorsement:
Gold: Skill Recovery (for flaks and maybe traps)
    Silver: Armor
Bronze: Rate of Fire (for SMG)

this is my current build. by setting up trap, flak and shooting the other pros using SMG. Skill recovery needed to spam more flak bomb and plant more traps. Armor is as usual to increase the survival ability. Rate of Fire is for shooting enemies when they're flaked..

i need some advice for this build...

Sounds like a fun build, but somewhat situational. You could probably tear through the lower health classes, but might have trouble with armor-endorsed assaults/supports, gunners, and especially tanks

I could see it working really well on Spunky arena to exert control of the center chokepoint

Great for keeping the enemy firebases off the map - make sure that's one of your top priorities

Flak damage output is too low to make up for the loss of headshot potential.

I don't think skilled snipers will benefit from this build, but the less-skilled ones might be able to squeeze more mileage out of the sniper class with this build and be more credit to team. I'd rather have a sniper on my that annoys the enemy with flak and traps than a sniper that sits on the spawnring all game and hits buggerall.

Running through a flak is like asking to lose all of your health. It's a great deterrent.

750 damage at most provided BAL_FLAK_DMGVSPLR does indeed refer to players.

Which is death for medium classes which it should be since it takes 5 seconds to dish that damage, however as main-focus of a build it doesn't compare very well to a build that potentially deals 1139 damage every 0.7 seconds with less of a reload.

Go ahead and check it out but ultimately you'd be better off hitting enemy heads.

This assumes the sniper in question can hit heads to begin with. That rules out quite a lot of them, tbh.

I have made a similar build, to dish out AoE traps and damage as quickly as possible.

I find it much more satisfying to annoy the enemy with a "rooted AoE DoT", when I can destroy any squad of escort bots every time in about half a second of my attention, than to snipe dudes, which is sort of boring for me. I play him as a "Controller" rather than a "Blaster"

I especially like to ruin Assassin's day by freezing them in place and Uzi'ing their faces off.

Glad to see another CoH/CoV veteran. It was a good game.

That said I'd focus more on the smg and armor and have skill regen as bronze if I was to play this kind of sniper(which I'm halfway tempted to).

I honestly enjoy doing this. I have mastered the art of the grapple so bigger classes can't do as much. Assaults really ruin my fun though.

I thought that too, but between ice traps and flack, with Gold Skill, you are almost always laying down AoEs.

This is nice for pushing in to the enemy base in Razor Blazer, with that nice wide open 'foyer', or if you are on the receiving end, is a great way to keep Assaults from spamming Bombs from just behind the glass.

They see a Sniper from behind the glass and think they are safe, assuming I will just stand there waiting for a headshot. When I get an opening, I instead run straight at them Uzi blazing then throw a flack which often also kills a Support and FireBase I didn't know about in the process.

Actually as I'm more of a support player in all honesty, I made a build for him centred around regen and armor. It's working well so far; although I'm not much help at the base, usually we're not even close to it so it doesn't matter.

If I could bring myself to like fully automatic weapons, I would probably use this build.
