Snarf's unofficial MNC Tournament #1 - signups

Ladies, gentlemen, and Scented Midget, it's time...for MONDAY NIGHT COMBAT!

Starting now (until MNC hosts them), I am going to attempt to organize an actual tournament once a month. Before I get into what's going on with this one, I'd like to lay down some basic info on the tournaments:

• The tournaments will not always be 6v6. Various tournaments will have various numbers of competitors.
• All matches are single elimination except for the championship match. That will be a best 2 out of 3 match.
• All match rules will be 20 minutes, no overtime. In the event of a tie, the team will play again. If it is still a tie, the team with the most money takes the win.
• Random Maps. Vetos allowed.

This tournament will be 6v6. It is not required that you have one of each class. You can have any build that you want. The tournament will begin at 10:00 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, December 23 2010. Bracketing will be RANDOM.

There are two ways you can sign up.

IF YOU WISH TO SIGN UP AS A TEAM

One person from your team needs to post a team name and ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR TEAM PARTICIPATING. Once a team is signed up, it is okay to make changes. But only one person needs to sign up the team. If one person signs up a team, and then another person makes a post signing up the exact same team, I will personally assrape everybody on that team (not kidding). Please use the following format:

If you don't have 6 players on your team, just list what you have. The rest will be randomly assigned.


IF YOU WISH TO SIGN UP INDIVIDUALLY

Just sign your name. Don't request to be part of any team. I'm going to assign you RANDOMLY to a team. It will be random...I'm going to be using a variable generator. Just simply sign up as so:

That simple. If you sign up your team, you are going to be your team's Team Captian. If youre on an all random team, I will let you guys determine who is Team Captain. If you don't determine that by the 22nd, I'm going to choose one for you (and if your captain fails to do his job, your stats will be lost, so I recommend some communication so that you guys can choose somebody reliable) Keep in mind a few things:

1) If you no-show a tournament or a tournament match, you're going to be banned from the next tournament I have. After your second offense, you're going to be banned from the next 3 tournaments I have. After your third offense, I'm never going to allow you to come back.

2) If for some reason you DO realize that you can't make it, let me know IN ADVANCE, and do your part - find a replacement.

3) Don't sign anybody up for your team if you are unsure of whether they can actually play. CONSULT WITH YOUR TEAM. If you sign somebody up and they don't show up, above penalties are still in effect.

4) Monday Night Combat is serious business. I expect a lot of trash talk, and everybody better try really really hard. No fun allowed.

5) The same penalties as above go for quitting. If you have an issue you have an issue, I get it. But if it's obvious that you quit the match, you're going to be banned from a tournament in the future.


AFTER YOUR MATCH

Message me with the winning team on Xbox live. Also, if the team captain needs to send me everybody's stats from their team. I'm going to keep tournament records for K/D and money earned. From there, hang tight, and don't sign off (if you won your match). You'll be kept posted on when your next match is.


FAQ:

Q: How are we going to get the games going?
A: You need to be on Monday Night Combat, in a party with your team BEFORE YOUR MATCH STARTS. You need to have me added as a friend (GT: HI IM SNARF). You need to be checking this thread because results and who is up will be posted in this thread. I will send somebody on your team a message letting them know when their game is within 5 minutes of starting.

Q: How the hell are we going to get the right people on the right teams?
A: For those of you who don't know, team setup for private matches by basically splitting the lobby based on who joined when. It's really as simple as this. One person (whoever has the best host on either of the two teams) will make a private game. He will invite all of his teammates. After his teammates have joined, he'll invite me. I'll invite the captain of the other team, who will then invite all of his teammates after I leave.

Q: How will you know who wins?
A: You'll tell me, dumbass. Hopefully, nobody is actually lame enough to lie about whether they won in Monday Night Combat.

Q: What if I sign up individually, but there aren't enough people to make me another team?
A: Should have signed up sooner, loser. You really have three options here. Option 1 - don't play. Sorry, you don't have a team, you don't get to play. Option 2 - find a bunch of randoms who will play with you. Yes, you'll get your *** handed to you. But that's how it'll have to be. Option 3 - try to play with a smaller team. If there are 4 leftover, those 4 are welcome to play as a 4 man team as well, if they want.

Q: Can we have alternatives?
A: Um, no. That's stupid. There are no mid-game substitutions. How about using your 7th man to begin forming another team so that there are more teams for the tournament? K thanks.

I don't expect to have more than 4-5 teams this game, but next tournament will be a 4v4 tournament, so hopefully it'll be better then. Until then, please feel free to begin signing up. I'm not going to sign up my team yet because I don't know for sure who is in.

Nice idea, but I'd switch the non-championship rounds to best of three and championship round to best of 5. 1 match during the NC rounds could be too random, especially if one team is better on the particular map chosen. And you'd get (potentially) all 5 maps for the championship round.

I'll be down to play in it. Just need to figure out who I'd like to team with. If anyone sees this post that knows me and wants to form a team, send me a message on XBL.

You should do best of 3 every round, because host plays a factor, and you don't want people fluking because they had a favorable host. Also, you should let the players schedule their own matches. Some of us have varying schedules, so it would be best if we chose our own match times. And you should DEFINITELY allow alternates, because it's difficult to have 6 people on at a specific time they didn't agree to.

You really can't afford to be strict with a community this small and this opposed to competitive play.

Man, here's the thing. I'm going to assume that everybody playing is good. Good players vs. good players means longer games.

If there are just 4 teams.

Game 1 - 20 minutes
Game 2 - 20 minutes
Game 3 (first championship game) - 20 minutes
Game 4 (2nd championship game) - 20 minutes
Game 5 (if championships tie) - 20 minutes

An hour and 40 minutes worth of gameplay alone. That's not taking into account all the time it's gonna take to actually set up the games (you know that every team is going to have one teammate with Downs Syndrome who just can't seem to join the game without making everybody wait 10 minutes). And if there are ties, that's potentially another 4 games - up to 80 minutes - added into it. For now, until we can see some dedication to the tournaments, I just want to do a single elimination, 1 match tournament.

I understand what you're saying, Shammas. Depending on how signups go, i do plan on changing rules and such. But for right now, this is what I'm going to stick with. I am giving you guys plenty of time in advance. You should PLAN to be on for this time if you're going to sign up.

Is your plan to get the entire tournament in during one night?

If we have only 4 teams, which is my estimate, it makes more sense.

Ultimately, the goal is to make this work. So I am absolutely willing to make any adjustments necessary to get an actual tournament going. I just feel like this is the best, most efficient way to go about it. If the majority disagrees, I'll be happy to change it.

Just get as many as you can. If you don't have 6, you'll get a random. But hurry up and sign up because if we can't get enough to sign up we'll have to either change the date/cancel it altogether.

Guys, give me some input here. Are there any things in particular that you really want changed about this tournament? Does everybody agree that you'd rather schedule your own matches? I need some consensus here.
