    Hi All,

    Just wanted to give some basic feedback on the Alpha.

    1.) I am not sure if it has been addressed or not, or if anyone else even cares but;
    When a unit is highlighted, the grey/blue/white square beneath the unit to show that it is selected is (in my opinion) awful. For some reason it takes me right out of the experience. Perhaps a small circle to indicate a selected unit would fair better?

    2.) I could not find any gameplay options (if they exist yet), but it would be nice if side scrolling off the edge of the screen accomplished the same act as using the arrow keys.

    3.) Overall I had a good experience and I am sure the gam will only improve over time. I am curious to know if there will be additional graphics or detailed layers added to units and landscapes or if the "cartoony" look is actually what you were going for. I don't care either way, I am just curious. As I fairly die hard SupCom2 player, I really like the "realism" and "details" of the SupCom2 units and enviroments.

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for allowing us to give input!

    Oh the irony.

    SupCom/FA's units were much more "realistic" than anything you could pick from SupCom2.

    As for the Environments, well they looked better but played worse.

    Also I still stand but the idea that PA is not cartoony, nothing is really exaggerated in any regard, it just features a more simple styling.

    Look at this;

    Although the level of detail isn't exactly the same, the proportions are very similar, Id say the turret would have to be at least 50% bigger before I'd start calling it exaggerated in any way.

    There is post processing that will go in once the game is otherwise working(Gameplay > Graphics) but the style was set by the Pre-Visualization.

    Thanks for the nice response Mike.

    Like I said, I was only curious and not trying to knock PA at all. I don't mind the art style of PA at all. Its just different, that's all.

    As for Supcom, I like "Supcom" better overall, but I have been playing Supcom2 for the last couple weeks with the Revamp Mod and there is just something about the Supcom2 units and enviroments that seem a bit more polished than Supcom1. Or, maybe it's just me. I don't know.

    The environments were only slightly better looking, considering how new SC2 was compared to SC and FA it was rather a small change, that was definitely the only thing 'better' about SC2 for me.

    Not sure if this is what you are talking about but in 'game setting' you can set the game to scroll the map when your cursor gets to the edge of the screen.

    Just hit esc once in game should allow you to select the settings option from there - i find that combining this with the "always orient north" option makes it a heck of a lot easier to keep track of where i am.

    the graphics of this game stand and fall with the textures. I guess, textures are not final yet. A lot can be done with improved textures, if all units are finished, and they have some spare time for that.
    Or am I wrong with that?

    I dunno, I mean this is just my subjective opinion, but less is more in this case. Supreme commander looked okay for the time and it was nice to have a TA style game, but going back and looking at the units, the overall impression from their detailing and texturing is pretty ugly and blurry. My gaming PC is bust at the moment, otherwise I'd actually go install supcom and look at things. But looking at PA's beautiful clean textures and lovely blocky units... it's just really pretty and I like it a lot more.

    Forged Alliance looks great. Its still one of the best looking RTS at the moment. at least in my feeling. SupCom 2 looked better, but played worse. Starcraft 2 is ugly. Company of Heroes 2 looks magnificent, but its another style of RTS, its rather RTT with less units.
    The explosions, animations, effects of Forged Alliance are still really good nowadays. And with top graphic settings its really good looking. The only bad thing is the ground textures and environment.

    Stormie, thanks for the tip! That's what I was looking for!

    Also, I didn't mean to start huge debate over the pros and cons of SC vs. SC2 vs PA. I was only commenting on the art style and how it was layered/textured.

    Thanks,

    Yeah, I don't really like the selection squares (and they are definitely not what we will be using in the end). Before the selection squares we had single pixel wide programmer art...

    I really want an outline effect, but we don't have the tech (or the perf) to do that well yet.

    As for the environments and style that can be modded. But the goal of the current style is a balance of aesthetics, readability, and performance. Jon's goal is a million units, across a system of fully realized planets, and we can't do that yet will fairly simple geometry. Computers are fast, but not that fast. So things look the way they do for a reason.

    Personally I prefer the "simpler" art style of PA over the more detailed, but kinda messy looking one in Supcom.

    Even if performance wasn't an issue, I'm happy with how PA is looking aesthetically.
