Neutrino I like it when you show tech in the Uber blog. I think there are a lot of people interested in the game design profession, and want it to be more than this infamous black box that gets joked about but is poorly understood. I know some of it may be beyond me, but that's part of what I like. I am much less interested in things that I already know. Obviously, if you want to produce some TLDR videos too that are more promotional that's great too. Thank you Bast
I like hearing about the hardcore tech stuff as well since I have some computer science background but I think the guys at Uber are more in the business of making games than teaching classes on game design and programing. You could always go take a few classes at your local community college or go play with the Unity Engine if you really want to learn more about it.
I find it especially interesting because they are using software technologies in new and exciting ways. An obvious example are the flowfields, but also interesting are thing like the terrain system which allows for fully 3d terrain (something pretty difficult to do without it being hacky, especially when talking about spheres).
I agree I find it interesting to see/hear tech data but I have no desire to take a class. Most of it is beyond me but it is interesting. I really enjoyed the last video when they were talking about flowfields.
Thanks guys. I didn't think I was alone. My OP was very unspecific, because this could be addressed to any of the technologies. I think talking about what Uber is doing is a very valuable method to improve the quality of the work and adds value to the worker. Yes, a great number of people do not understand, but that does not make it less valuable. I honestly don't think the basics of the subject matter is beyond most of our gamers, but that it is a foreign concept that takes a little bit of demonstration before it's basics are understood. I think it's great that Uber set a documentary stretch goal, and I don't want it to be watered down. I won't give any specifics how that could happen, but I think if you use your imagination the possibilities are endless. The pathing AI is very interesting and as John said, this is the core of what makes these games so amazing.
