I use Show/Hide UI and Show/Hide Visual Overlays a lot for video work. This is a bug that's carried over from vanilla, but sometimes I'll find that once I've switched off visual overlays I can no longer switch them back on. I don't know the cause, but do it often enough and you'll get the bug.
