I've lost my edge. I need a singleplayer shooter that will get it back. Multiplayer games are too inconsistent to train well without friends to play against, and I don't know anybody that'll be able to play with me enough to effectively bootcamp. The harder the better, though I'd prefer something with a deepish movement system. Not super specialized to the point where it won't transition well, but not corridor shooting either.
CPMA and Warsow vs bots will do wonders to improve your aim and FPS dexterity. (Though your strategic game would probably only improve with human opponents.) Nexuiz/Xonotic also do fairly well in this area, though I'm not as familiar with them so I can't say how much they would help. However, if you really want something to put you through your paces, I suggest playing against bots in Quakeworld. They're surprisingly smart, and possibly the most challenging bots I've played against in a shooter. (Yeah, that's right. Quakeworld bots are smarter than most other FPS bots. Surprised me too.) If you don't care for bots, Quake 1, Quake 2, and Painkiller are good, fast-paced singleplayer experiences that can get you playing FPSs fairly smoothly.
http://lgc.quakeworld.nu/ Not only is that gonna bring your aim up to speed you also get a number you can put to that - what gets measured gets managed. Do it on povdmm4
Awesome, numbers. I like numbers. What sort of numbers should I be aiming for to be not suck? Accuracy over 50%, even or higher kills/deaths, whatever number the score throws out at whatever value is good?
Don't look at other people. Establish a routine, ie. 7 repetitions with 30 second breaks (or whatever works for you) per day, average the score, beat the score. After all your goal is to improve, not to impress others.
Borderlands, fall out 3 or new vegas or both, a very cheap one ace of spades ( multiplayer, looks crappy but it's fun), I would say elder scrolls but those aren't shooters, but still it requers timing with a bow or spell. Those are off the top of my head, maybe I will remmeber something later.
Chaser for learning how2strategy and learn2weaponswitch2meetneeds TFC for 1337 movement training (TF2 is kiddy ****.) NOLF 2 for learning how2outsmart people.
then counter strike and unreal tournament. But still, even though they are not the best for shooter training, those games are fun, have some hard spots in their storyline and make you adapt to be using the enviroment, timing and accuracy properly.
1. Buy Quake 3/get pak0.pk3 from somewhere 2. Get this http://www.esreality.com/index.php?a=post&id=1766530 3. Select only CPMA and Point Release in the "what to install" dialog 4. Boot up CPMA (optional, but recommended): get this http://www.esreality.com/index.php?a=post&id=2036455 (optional, but highly recommended): get a good config file http://www.esreality.com/post/2355041/c ... pid2355079 5. type the following in the console (default key to bring it up is ~): /map cpm3a;addbot rat 81 6. hf CPM has every kind of weapon other shooters use, so every kind of aim style. Very deep movement system, but easy to learn. For extra fun do /bot_challenge 1 to give the bot a wallhack.
