[Edit: I changed the word "animalized" into "animal-like shape" to make it more understandable]

Back in the days, when I played the TA demo, I loved the spider bots.
There was a mission where you have to find the spider bots.
After you found them, you had them under your control and could paralyse your enemys.
I realy enjoyed the animations and the design of those spider bots.

Then I watched Ghost in the Shell and was amazed about the design of the spider tank and developed a penchant for spider robots.
So, all in one: I love spider robots and spider tanks.

But indeed I love alot of robot designs with a shape of an undefined animal.
That means: You cannot see, what animal the robot represents. But you could guess. This is an "animalized robot" (in my words - cannot find a better one [Edit: animal-like shape]).

In this sense, a spider tank could also be a bug tank, a dog tank, a horse tank or a rhino tank, etc.

I searched the web about one or two hours and found some great stuff.
I don't want to be the hotlink-whore, so I will only post two pics and the other ones as a link.

Question to the community: Do you want robots with animal-like shape in the game?
Question to Uber: Could we have it, please?

Well, yes. With a different style and animation. Yes.

Bots can come with more than 2 legs, I just think the title is kinda misleading and that overall isn't really needed, for the number of units and the variety of possible roles I would find it hard to believe that there wouldn't already be stuff like this going in.

Would ultra high tech robots need to copy earth like animals? Or would they copy aliens? Or would they just build what works best? I don't know!

Some Scorpions or Spiders or other animal bots with 6 legs would be cool.

Yeah... this is not a point. It is a game.
Why should they copy anything? Or look cool? If we take it to the logical level, then everything makes no sense. (Also TA and Supreme Commander - both games have spider bots)

TA explained as a necessary design to produce a all terrain assault unit, requiring the nerve cells of spiders to properly animate the legs, and get them to work properly.

SupCom did it for the lulz.

Did Supcom and TA have animalized bots? yes.

I don't see the point of this thread. It's pretty much a certainty we get to see animalized bots. We'll also see human bots and tanks (threaded units). so?

Variety is the spice of destuction

    Re: "Animalized" robots

UEF has 0 bots with more then 2 legs.
Cybran has 6 units with more then 2 legs (the experimentals included).
Aeon has 1 unit with more then 2 legs.
Seraphim has also 0 bots with more then 2 legs.
    4 factions, 7 units.

I think, this is not very much. TA is similar at that point.

The question is simple: Look at the pictures. Wanna have those things? Or not?
That is my question. Just a design question. It's a game. It should be fun, right?

    Re: "Animalized" robots

That's an argument that sounds good, until you actually look at everything together

Also you forgot about the Salem when doing Cybran as it has 6 legs and for Aeon you forgot the Sprite Striker(4 legs).

Cybran has 4 with 2 Legs
UEF has 6 with 2 Legs
Aeon has 3 with 2 Legs
Seraphim has 5 with 2 Legs
4 Factions, 18 units, including ACUs and SCUs and Experimentals with 2 legs
4 factions, 9 units including Experimentals with more than 2 legs

So, including ACU/SCUs, Multiped units make up for 33% of Bot units, without ACU/SCUs its closer to 50%, so I'm not really seeing how they're "under represented" honestly.

So... you both think, it is certain that PA will have those units?
I think, it is not certain at all. And I wish PA will have some of those units. That is all I wish for.
I wouldn't have thought that such a wish would come along with so much defense against it.

Don't you like the pics? Wouldn't it be cool to have a unit that looks like one of them?
    I would be very satisfied.

    Re: "Animalized" robots

Try reading what you bolded, I never said it was certain or that I was certain, I said "I would find it hard to believe", that is based on both TA and SupCom's unit designs and the overall variety that is possible for unit designs. Also considering that readability is key to PA's Aesthetic, and in that regard doing just bipedal bots would be not as good as also having Multiped designs.

It won't be Certain until Neutrino says "Yes, there will be unit designs with more than 2 legs."

The devs have stated multiple times that they want clear and easy to understand designs for their units.

There is no doubt that they'll be using every combination of legs possible.

Does that mean, you want some of these units in the game or not?

There is no doubt? There is no confirmation.

Robots have been working with animal shapes since Total Annihilation:
    Shark
    Fido

If it looks good, go with it.

I think we should have units with 2, 4 and 6 legs. Maybe even 8 or more if it makes sense. It makes it easy to read units and adds some variety to meshes and animation. There are also some interesting animal shapes possible for planes and submarines.

What it comes down to is: It should look like a bot that reminds you of an animal not like an animal that is made of armor plates and bolts - or worse: a giant dinosaur with armor strapped to it like in SupCom2. I never liked the Cybran Rex.

Depends. Are they outright copying or just taking influence from. Influenced and inspired by I'm all for. If I see a cat like bot and I can tell it was copied from a tiger instead of a lion than that's too much. That being said I'm thinking if I can even tell it was cat inspired, that might be too close to animal like. But please no tails or tentacles, those things always look ridiculous when mechanized.
