So does the roam function actually work? If it does, how is it different from maneuver, hold position, and patrol?
Roam makes a unit just roam around, with patrol you set up patrol points in which the unit will follow in a loop, and... hold position is rather self explanatory.. xD
There are three movement stances. Movement stances only affect a unit's behavior if it has no other orders. Hold Position: The unit will not move away from its current position at all. Maneuver (Default): The unit will move to stay within weapons range of a target of opportunity up to a max distance from their current position. Roam: The unit will move to stay within weapons range of a target of opportunity to the ends of the earth.
That's odd? It's been working since some time on Alpha, try it with an air scout. Then if it still isn't working might want to make A bug report. Roam seems to have been changed.
Huh.. Alright, though i could swear I used it in the way I described before the game had area commands. =P
Does "within weapons range" indicate the edge of the red circle? Or the sight range? Or somewhere else? I've watched many a long range unit get closer than they have to and end up dying (looking at you, Hornets!)
The guard radius maybe? I know in the pte this has been increased so units don't sit there getting attacked....
The max range they will travel is the "guard radius" specified in their spec. In general, I believe this is 30m, but @tvinita has been adjusting this value for some units. The max range they will look for targets of opportunity is their max weapon range + guard radius.
i like to ask if you could add a retreatmovement for when units get under fire as well as a shoot ground fireoption to the units ... at least the later should be easy to implement i imagine ...
