Often when I log in to MNC int he morning I see the same picture: a bunch of servers with 0 open slots and a few with 11 or 12 open slots. We are wasting valuable resources here! Please, if you see a server that is idle join it and do some CPR. You will be surprised how fast a server can fill up once it has reached a critical number of players. It usually only takes one or two rounds to get an idle server back to full 6v6 strength! I will not sugarcoat it, at some point you will most likely face a 1v2 or 2v3 situation and get your butt kicked for a few minutes. Please stay strong and don't give up at this point, more players will join soon and teams will even out. Just test a new build, explore the map (can I get there with Charge?) or do some crazy stuff. Even if you lose badly, it won't affect your stats in a negative way. Actually you are increasing them since the leaderboards only show number of wins, kills and lifetime earnings. You have nothing to lose by losing... Please help to keep servers up, especially if you are from the EU. There are only a small number of servers for us and we should make the best use of them we can. A big thank you to everybody who is hosting servers, you rock!
I find that screwing around by yourself for a few minutes often attracts the attention of newer players, who often look for nice small servers to practice on. People would much rather play with one other person than alone. Join an empty server and it will fill before Bullseye can throw coins at you. Also, remember that losing still nets you money, and a bad KDR is not forever on your stats. You really have nothing to lose.
Usually I'll let people know if I'm rebooting, always a dangerous thing when the server stays constantly full with 12 (and more). When it comes back up, usually 5 or so minutes it's full again. Lack of players isn't a real BIG issue that I've encountered, but I suppose all it would take an announcement on my friends list or the steam group. There's only 12-14 servers and the community is very small, but 1v2 4v5 yeah just play DM until 6v6. Then go after the ball.
Well, there are only 3 servers with a ping of around 100ms or less for me to chose from here, sometimes only one or two in the off hours. After that it usually goes up to >200ms which is bad news if you play a slow moving, giant target like the Gunner... When I see an empty EU server my heart bleeds. So my declared mission for the beta is to keep as many EU servers up and running as possible. If you have to reboot, by all means, don't let us stop you! I'll just grab a cup of coffee and be right back. I just joined a server with 10 empty slots and it went to 6v6 in no time. Match ended in overtime and it was intense! We lost but it was good sport and I had loads of fun. Earned a nice little something on my way to the 6th custom class that I still need to unlock and I got a pancake protag for my collection.
I try to reboot my server everyday , however they stay full almost 24 hours . Seems that about 7:00 Cst is the lul spot as far as player count go. Hopefully the fix for servers will be in . I also plan on hosting in the EU if I can find a decent server box .
I'm patiently waiting for server-side tools. Can't kick hax0rs if it's full and I can't get in to my own server.. :l
Saw those servers, but in general they have a ping of more than 200 ms for me (EU) and I am annoyed already enough by some lag death shots on lower ping servers. (Nothing like being behind cover on your client only to get lag sniped/shot.) So in short: would love to, but no dice. Silience's and Racquemis' servers are the only ones for me that are worth anything in latency/lag. Unless Unix binaries came out, then I know a bunch of people who will start hosting in EU as well.
That's how it is for me. I can't stand more than 150 MS, let alone 200 >> I'll see what I can do, but I won't like it.
Like I said, I main Gunner. I know exactly what you mean. Let's just try to keep the servers in your specific region up and we should all be fine. I've seen this in Demigod: There are actually a lot of players in multiplayer just waiting for a server (or in Demigods case a lobby) with a few open slots. But for some reason they won't join an empty or almost empty lobby. However if you 'push' a server to a certain limit they will join at once. I think if you bring one server back to life you probably allow 6-8 people to play who would otherwise just refresh the server list.
Oh yeah, absolutely. I've helped co-admin a TF2 server and that included playing/being on it when there's no other users. That does help a lot.
Usually it's cause there are only like 3 servers that have <80ms here in the East Coast. And I do a 'playerlist' ingame and see 3/4 people with ~300ping...
