I'm enjoying hosting a low latency server on the west coast, but I'd like to be able to play on it when I get home from work :? Are there management tools out there for the U3 engine that will work with this game for things like reserved slots? A full admin interface would be great for kicking, banning and most importantly TOGGLING DRUGS. The only thing missing from regular gameplay are the party elements. The guys in development here where I work will be playing during breaks, lunches, late hours. Party elements would just make things better. Also, while I'm the proud owner of three copies of this game (360, gaming rig, dedicated server), I'd happily host more servers if I could get some binaries with just the server code for a reduced price (free would be better). If not, it would be great if I didn't have to start the game in order to start a dedicated server.
You can start a server from the command line, just look in your server log for the exact command. Or check the 'dedicated server tutorial' thread here. There are options in the command to set private slots, but I've never tried to see if they work. And of course the downside is that anyone playing when you're not playing won't ever be able to get a full game. (as far as I can tell "reserved" slots are just password protected private slots at this point, where the only people who can fill them are ones with the password.)
Sweet, thanks for your reply! I'll check out the dedicated tutorial. I think I was on the steam forums when I was trying to get help last time and I couldn't find any links. Bummer that the reserved slot can't be occupied. Would be cool if there was some steam integration where you could just add friends to reserved slots and as they joined, a low scoring player would just get bumped like in BC2. Anywho, I'm off to make a watchdog script for keeping West Coast Durp up Thanks again!
Hopefully they'll add support for stuff like that eventually. I'm sure if the community asks for it they'll look at it.
