[REQ] Most outlandish yet possible modding Idea yet - Factions!

    First of all, before I say anything I would like to thank https://forums.uberent.com/threads/total-biscuit.66961/ for inspiring this idea in me, the talk of unit personality and factions made me realize that factions are actually possible in this game.

    We have four different classes of commanders -

    It is possible to create a different faction for every class.

    Although it is possible, it will be an enormous undertaking to actually create all units, buildings, and effects necessary for this to be a polished mod. It will require balancers, texturers, modelers, people to theorize ideas. But, it is very possible, to lessen the workload we could even go bipedal and non-bipedal to only have 2 factions, which sounds a lot better to me.

    I believe people have had the idea of doing this before.

    But yeah, personally I wouldn't know how to start, as buildings and units have tags for what units can build them, but commander is a single tag.

    If you find a way of tagging units and buildings per commander, then you have factions!

    So what is it actually supposed to be about? Different factions but what will make them separate factions?

    And @igncom1 you can just use the Custom# build types and unit types.

    Just give a unit the "UNITTYPE_Custom1" and a factory the build type "Custom1"

    So there you go OP, with the 4 custom tags you can make 4 (possibly 5, with one side not using tags) factions.

    Well, there really are not much tank commanders atm, so you can probably get away with having only 3 factions in early versions. Plus there is already old bot factories that you can use for third faction land units. Plus there are combat fabbers that you can use for third factory fabbers (how often people use combat fabbers anyway). Some units can be shared between factions, no big deal. I will share units from ModX, if Statera ,RCBM and Orbital Warfare Overhaul join there will be a lot of units to fill land, air and orbital.

    If you use custom-pairs, I think you could do 6

    7 if you want to -customs everything.

    Actually, with generous use of minus you might be able squeeze 16 in.

    Ok I wasn't planning on revealing this, but I have been working on A new PA faction for quite a while. I still haven't revealed anything publically, but basically the entire orbital mod team is on board and we were planning on revealing it when we had more stuff ingame.

    Soo yeah. *cough*gotafactionmodontheway*cough*.


    EDIT:
    The plan is to add factions one by one. so far we just have 2 planned and that's more than enough work.

    What do the minus signs represent? I assumed you combined tags by boolean logic.

    I'd be up for working something up to fit every commander type. Some sort of general aesthetic for each. We could all get into it, it'd be fun. (If not a real work load :p )
