I can play the game fine, but after game when I hit chrono cam PA locks up for a long time and then disconnects. Occasionally if I walk away form the PC for an hour and come back it may be loaded. When I try to load replays I disconnect a large percentage of the time. The percentage increases based on the size of the replay. Games over 30 minutes hardly ever load for me. It should be noted that I am playing FFA's on my own System, using UBER servers, with a Planet of diameter 1000, 1200, or 1300. I recently deceased planet to 1000 and chose biome with no trees in order to decrease download times for other players and decrease lag in a long game. I am curious if this is an issue on my side or the servers? Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of watching the replays? Would mroe RAM help me? Is running in a HIGH resolution hurting me? In game I seem fine. Here are the specs on my PC. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 11/12/2014, 05:47:46 Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_gdr.140723-2018) System Manufacturer: Alienware System Model: Area 51 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz Memory: 12288MB RAM Available OS Memory: 12278MB RAM Page File: 3475MB used, 21091MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.03.9600.16384 64bit Unicode --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GTX 670 DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Type: Full Device Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1189&SUBSYS_26783842&REV_A1 Display Memory: 4033 MB Dedicated Memory: 1985 MB Shared Memory: 2048 MB Current Mode: 2560 x 1440 (32 bit) (59Hz) Monitor Name: Dell U2713H(Digital) Monitor Model: DELL U2713H Monitor Id: DELA093 Native Mode: 2560 x 1440(p) (59.951Hz) Output Type: DVI Driver Name: nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um Driver File Version: 9.18.0013.4465 (English) Driver Version: 9.18.13.4465 DDI Version: 11 Feature Levels: 11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1 Driver Model: WDDM 1.3 Graphics Preemption: DMA Compute Preemption: DMA Miracast: Not Supported Hybrid Graphics GPU: Not Supported Power P-states: Not Supported Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 11/3/2014 19:04:30, 19966344 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes WHQL Date Stamp: Device Identifier: {D7B71E3E-52C9-11CF-834A-75061CC2C435} Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x1189 SubSys ID: 0x26783842 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Driver Strong Name: oem52.inf:0f066de3
No, you have plenty of RAM there. The only thing I notice in the above is that your drivers are slightly out of date (7 months old), so you may want to update those anyway. What you do mean with "locking up" though? You cannot navigate the planet anymore? Or is it just that the units are not moving, but you are still able to control the camera? PA is still responding to commands? Replays are LARGE, so if you internet connection isn't especially fast, you could be in for a wait. What's the speed of your internet connection?
internet Speed is 20 MB down 2 up. Nothing is happening at all and I have to wait for it to catch up to do anything. Sometimes it ends in a disconnect, sometimes it eventually comes around.
Ah, sorry. I meant that while you are waiting, can you still press the arrow keys to make the planet rotate and such? It's just the units that are not moving, right? Well, 20MB/s should certainly be fast enough.
I cant do anything. The UI does not respond, I can not move anything, see anything (but a half drawn Chrono Cam sliding bar). If I click to many things I get a "Not Responding" message from windows. I have this behavior on two separate PCs. here is one of the replays I see this with: 6270713172300706785
Ah, I see. Well, newer drivers seem to have fixed many problems with PA in the past, so I would start with the graphics drivers. New ones have been released just two days ago for your NVida card, see here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers If that doesn't solve the problem, could you upload the PA log? They can be found in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log" On a typical install %LOCALAPPDATA% will be "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local". You can just delete them all, then start PA, try to load the replay and get the crash. It should then have created a new logfile then. Does the other PC also have an NVidia card? (I won't be able to check your replay until after work in about five hours, but I'll let you know if it works for me or not.)
Ok, I got it to load on the third attempt. The first two attempts just timed out. The third attempt worked, but it took a full two minutes to load. It worked fine for me after that though. Memory usage stayed at around 4 GB for me, so your 12 GB should be plenty. (Congrats on your victory by the way. )
Ahh so it did fail for you too... perhaps I just have to keep trying. I play a lot of FFA and sometimes they go above 40 minutes. I love watching them after to see what happened all over but so far have not been able to load any of the more interesting matches.
Yeah, from what I understand, the replay files are huge. When you request a replay, a server is start, which has to load that entire file. So that takes a while for longer games. I'm not sure why it times out so easily though. Maybe the replay servers sometimes crash? Uber probably knows. Anyway, I had no trouble with it once it loaded. So no crashes or freezes or anything. That part might be driver related. I also have an NVidia, but I run it under Linux. I've seen other (Windows) users have trouble with the ChronoCam as well, but only on Intel graphics.
Okay, I tried and tried and tried to load a replay I played last night that was 45 minutes long. It FINALLY worked after the 10th attempt. Not sure why I keep timing out... was no network activity, CPU usage, or RAM usage during that time. I guess I just have to be tenacious about wanting to watch it. I updated my video drivers on both PC did not help. We are both on NVIDIA. Thanks for the help!
Yeah, I noticed the same. There's just an initial small download of a few KB, then nothing, then a spike again and then nothing for quite a while, which would we the time that the server itself is busy loading the replay file. That's normal, I think. What's not normal of course, is that times out so frequently. I've opened a bug report: PA#4234 You are still crashing when using the ChronoCam once the replay has finally loaded though? Even with the new drivers?
I can't get Chronocam or replays to work either. Blank screen or hang if I engage. The only way out seems to be to "End Task" pa.exe. It's been that way at least a week. Also, when I choose to view only my replays...the list is blank.
My chronocam has been broken for a long time as well. My UI locks up and sometimes crashes to desktop whenever I open the chronocam.
Can you try to debug what exactly is the step in the UI code that breaks it? For me it has had some very rare glitches, but it always fixed itself after less than 30 seconds of ignoring it.
We have an issue with the current chronocam update. We are reverting back to the previous one with the next build to live (late November). This will allow you to use chronocam again, and we will get the new version fixed and rereleased in the near future.
