[REL] Annoy Me

    Train yourself to get better at managing the economy, by being punished every time you mis-manage it. This mod checks the economy every 3 seconds, making annoying noises if you're stalling (or wasting) metal or energy.

    I'm not against making a mod which does the same sort of thing, not to annoy but inform. ie make a noise once per eco mis-management event. The mod could include other things to be informed about audibly (other than just eco), I'm open to suggestions.

    Not recommended if you have high blood pressure.

    I'll definitely try this out. My first thought is maybe don't check quite so often unless you want me to hurt you, but I'll let you know after I practice with it.

    I've tried it at one second intervals. I lasted 5 minutes before I wanted to kill kittens :p

    A future version would have a setting for the player to set the interval, more distinct sounds and maybe different sets of sounds to choose from. But right now I'm lazy.

    Three kittens later I feel much better...

    I once thought about an effect like the populous heatbeat. Only robots don't have hearts, so it would have to be beeps and clicks or something.

    Would you be able to make sounds for specific units being destroyed or only on "something" being destroyed.

    Well it certainly is annoying. It got a lot better when I turned it up to 10 seconds.

    Grest stuff, will likely be using this even if it makes me curse more. Perhaps we can make the metal bar turn into flames when you overflow metal :)

    Robot beeps and clicks? Sounds like R2D2 sounds could be up your street.

    Specific types of unit maybe. That would be a bit of a headache to do, I'd have to refer to PA Stats to have an idea how to do that.

    I'd stall on purpose, love that sound even on repeat ;)

    I hope you record it, I'd definitely borrow a white cat to have a bond moment. Visual indicators up to 11 would be nice, more susceptible to breaking in patches though.

    It should be disabled as a spectator, and before you land as a player. The only issue is that you may hear it right after you land, then again you were very naughty and started stalling metal :p

    If it gave you a warning every 10 seconds for so long.

    Then every 5 seconds.

    Then every 3

    Then every 2

    Then every 1.

    I actually want it to go the other way - alert you when things start to go wrong, and occasionally thereafter, but if I'm in long drawn out game where spending a planet's resources isn't the most important thing to be doing, its a little too annoying.

    I think for training purposes, that extra annoyance is important. For general playing purposes, yeah I agree that other way makes sense, but the game does that already.

    Don't use this mod until some conflicts have been worked out (I'll post when conflicts have been resolved). For some reason it conflicts with hotbuild2, maybe others. Possibly due to the minified library, I don't think anything in the mod code could conflict.

    edit: Library conflict, even when not minified. I'll try using a different library.

    I think it's fixed, v1.1 on PAMM.
    • No longer uses buzz library
    • Timer changed to 5 seconds instead of 3

    Can someone test it with hotbuild please? I did a little testing and it seemed to work, but someone who uses hotbuild a lot will be able to tell if there are issues.

    New version, v1.2
    • Added settings to enable/disable noises on stalling/wasting energy/metal
    • Default interval 10 seconds
    • Interval can be changed, depending on how annoyed you want to get
