    Hi,

If I recall correctly from one of the older streams that Uber made some time ago they talked about how they got Intel NUC computers for attending some happening of some sort. My thoughts right about now is; "How well would one NUC work as a PA server for LAN use?"
There has been discussions going on in these forums regarding the servers "beefyness" (so to speak) and that the server might not actually need that much in the way of hardware.

Is it possible for someone at Uber to test this once the server is ready to be released?

I'm asking this as I'm planning to build a small server for mostly PA gaming with my friends at my place and my internet connection can barely survive two players at any moment.

P.S. Sorry if my post seems a bit disorganized or unclear :p

Servers are hosted currently on computers equipped with octo-core CPUs and 16GB of RAM. The catch is that one server is being hosted per CPU. That means a computer with a duel or quad core CPU should be easy, especially if it has 8GBs of RAM.

This is the feeling I also got from reading the ongoing discussions but I would be happy if there would be a possibility to test out a NUC as a PA server before I decide to get one. Mostly I'm curious how the amount of RAM contributes to the overall functionality/responsiveness of the server -- from the current server specs that are used I'd guess with 8 GB of RAM it would be possible to have fairly comfortably around 12k+ units running around in a medium sized system (2-3 planets with a moon or two).

I could just build a full sized or even a mini-ITX based server too but I'd really prefer a system as small as possible that would be easy to carry with me if I need the server elsewhere in a hurry :)

We don't really know hardly any details about the servers. :-(

That's true, I might just wait some time until the server is closer to release before I start thinking about getting/building a small machine to use as a server :D
