Here's a TEDtalk about quadcopters.. first footage of skynet too.

    I have 3 R/C quadcopters..

My favorite one is this one

i have hacked and modified this AR drone to fly with my spektrum dx6i dsm controller.

I have also written basic color tracking software for the AR Drone 1.0, it can rotate to track an object, adjust flight height to match objects detected height, and hold its distance constant from tracked object allowing the drone to hunt/follow the target automatically.

Have you seen those cute little Nao robots? They look similar to the Honda ASIMO, but they're made by Aldebaran Robotics in France. They're pretty darn cute, but I have no idea how much they are. The website makes you contact them if you want to know prices. :(

Oh really? How so? Is he just totally full of himself? I hope we don't start programming rude robots

He acts all high and mighty, walking up and down those stairs. Someone should push him over to wipe that smug look off his face

RoboCup uses them now instead of the Sony AIBO dogs. Pretty expensive, but miles cheaper to maintain than the Sony ones.

The NAO was about $2000AU last time i enquired,
It depends on what software you want with it, there's and educational version, and a student study/university style version i think.
It needs wifi to operate as your PC becomes the brain and the robot syncs with the pc to function.

Awesome robots many missed out in buying but are still around if you can score them.
    Sony Rolly Speakers...

    Awesome programmable robot kits.
Here's one that does handstand and fights.

Buy and build them from this site :)

    Edit,
Link to the robot im buying..

That's not true. The Nao can operate entirely autonomously.

    http://www.robotappstore.com/Pages/Robot.aspx?Robot=NAO

It may have been the version of NAO i enquired about.

there are more than 3 models as there are older v2 models for educational purposes, but that was when i enquired over a year ago.
Wow the newer models are $4000+

And they state they are fully autonomous but need to download packages from pc and web for behavior.
There are certain models that learn, those models need the pc connection in order to store the massive amounts of data it acquires in the learning process, it's processed by the pc then downloaded back to the NAO.
So it is autonomous to a degree, it can function without a pc/internet connection but it will limit it's ability's.

Should a robot decide when to kill?

I think the more important question would be; if we allow robots to kill, is it acceptable for them to make mistakes?

The way I see is that people make mistakes. We often run on incomplete, or incorrect, information. Why treat robots any differently?

I forgot about this little bot.
    DARwIn OP

He's the Open Platform version of the NAO styled Semi intelligent robots.

I have seen gripper hand addon accessories, and it's available to anyone not just educational for universities.

I found them for-sale for about $15,000us here

What could be better than a NAO, an open source open platform version.. yay

If you have to ask, you can't afford :p

Maybe uber will make so much dosh from PA they can have a bot each and use it to robo-telecommute to work. Maybe that will catch on so much that everyone works from home, and the office is filled with robot telecommuting avatars.

They range from $2,000aud for a torso and head only, upto $18,000aud for the full 22 DoF unit.
Also it's only available for universities to purchase, i haven't seen NAO units commercially available yet.

On the plus side the "DARwIn OP" is commercially available, cheaper and better as it's open source, all the coding to run the robot is hosted on sourceforge.

My friend in college is actually working on creating learning kits for people here in Las Vegas to get into quad copter delivery and implementation. Quad copters have always been positive in my eyes.
