What if parts of units blew off and got increasingly damaged that represented the units health it would be purely for looks so it would be holes in a tank etc. just a thought to make the units look a bit better

This is already in most RTS games up to date. The older games already had smoke coming out of them. Games from a decade back almost all got a different look for damaged units. I would not be disappointed if PA did not have this. But I would be surprised if this doesn't make it into the game in some degree ;)

Yea it would be a lot of work but it would make the game look better and I was thinking that when the little assault bots get damaged and lose a leg or arm lol

Not sure about that kind of ongoing damage (maybe a puff of smoke from damaged units would be ok) but it would be nice to see robot limbs flying off from big explosions (from dead units only).

Yea it would make sense he limbs coming of dead robots but it would be funny to see a bit hopping round the battle

It'd be an interesting touch but more than I'd be expecting. Puffs of smoke would be cool, but I think that this type of stuff would be more cinematic.

That said, this reminded me of "Metal Arms: Glitch in the System". It was fun because the enemy bots could be partially damaged, but they'd still be trying to shoot or throw nades as if they were fine...leading to hilarious results.

With massive battles, I don't expect to see the one or two stragglers holding each other in their manipulators, coughing up coolant fluid, sharing last bytes of data before the end of line.

Homeworld 2 (only referencing this because it's the only Homeworld I played) had a nice-looking damage system. You'd see parts of the ships "inner structure" showing though as they got damaged. Holes with glowing, burning metal would gradually appear, etc. I'm pretty sure it was just a fancy decal texture, but it looked good. They'll likely just use the system SupCom used to make it simple though - fire and smoke, etc. It's easy and effective.
