I did a search of the "Confirmed PA Features" list and didn't see "random events" listed on it. Has Uber considered giving players the option to invoke random events in the game? Similar to "Masters of Orion", the random events could include natural disasters destroying units/structures. Such natural disasters could be relatively small and localized (e.g. earthquakes) or large and devastating (e.g. meteorite strikes, solar flares). Those who desire a "chess-like" game probably wouldn't go for this. But for those who like random events to spice up their gameplay, this could be just the thing.
Uber isn't planning anything such as that for the Main Game, but Modders will run rampart with it I'm sure. The CFL entries for weather is bascialyl working in support of the lack of random elements like that. Mike
Good 8-page thread on this topic. Thanks for the link. Bad news: looks like Uber probably won't implement random events in vanilla PA. Good news: looks like there's just enough interest in random events where someone will probably create a balance mod to incorporate it.
I would not want random events happening if you're trying to have a serious game, the fewer advantages that can be given randomly to players the better.
I think random events would be a nice way to spice things up in a match among friends. I do agree that serious matches would probably not be the best place for random events. But that still doesn't mean that Uber couldn't allow an option for it, for those who were so inclined to use random events.
