    Currently,

The radar doesn't give the information to the player on which type of unit is behind a blip. This is the expected behavior. However, I found out that a clever player, when spotting an enemy base, can turn the planet so the blips are near the horizon: air units are hovering above the surface of the planet, thus giving an additional information to the player owning the radar.

    Is this behavior intended?

yes and no, however its not even necessary to do that as air units move faster than bots or tanks and bots move faster than tanks. i or any player could easily tell you what class of unit it is just by watching its speed.

So, should we have some kind of information à la Supreme Commander which general type is known on the radar (air / land /naval) but not the true type?

I feel as if advanced radar should have that sort of functionality, but not basic radar.
    planktum and ace902902 like this.

this, but what about those that can already discern the type of unit from just normal radar?

That's not a game feature, that's paying attention...
