In some of my games it seems like my team doesn't even bother buying turrets at all, leaving me to purchase a few Rock-its/ShaveIces/LongShots and upgrade some preexisting ones, ending with me not having much left at all to spend on skill upgrades (but I usually do try and save enough for the next Annihilator).

So my question is, in pubs, if nobody else on my team is giving a damn in the turrets department, should I focus on my personal upgrades instead?

Depends on what you want to achieve. It's entirely situational, I for my part upgrade my skills until I have what I need (Grapple 2, Traps 2, Flak 3, Passive 3 - not in that order) and then pay the base using the streak bonus for successive kills.

Depends on how the match goes. If your team is controlling the map and the opponents are turtling inside their base, spend the money on personal upgrades and juice to keep your enemies' defenses down and speed up the whole process, always have enough money for the annihilator though.

If your base is getting besieged, spend the money on turrets. Also congratulations, your team is being stupid if noone's buying turrets in this situation

If the situation is pretty stale and the match seems not to be going anywhere, make sure to have 1000$ before Overtime starts to buy juice twice and quickly destroy the enemy moneyball.

Hm, I've never given any real thought to how much streaks can stack, so I guess upgrading my must-have skills first could be a priority so I can rack up some more kills to fund turrets. I mostly play gunner/assault with the occasional assassin, although I do spend more time blowing up turrets/bots than trying to get a ton of kills with the assassin.

Edit: Are Longshot turrets a viable buy in most situations, as in do they blow up enough things/score assists to refund the money spent on them?

Do not build Longshots on Steel Peel. They just hit the roof. Personally, I love Longshots.

Really? I'll keep that in mind, since I usually don't hang around my Longshots to watch and see where their shells end up.

I refuse to build Longshots anymore because they go down in 1-2 airstrikes if not overhealed and are relatively expensive. I'd rather buy a bunch of Gapshots with Support if I have that much money left over, they're more powerful and do the job better anyway.

I rarely play support, so I was just wondering if Longshots were a good investment if they can give you more money through assists/killing bots than you spent on them.

No.Change to support (You will die eventually),spam Gapshots, suicide to not give money to the enemy, change back to Assault,Sin or Gunner..

Lvl 3 Longshots are very good, but honestly,if they have a single decent Assasin, that turret is gonna last seconds.I wouldn't spend so much money in something so fragile.

If I suicide to switch classes, the money I spent on my skills are retained? I wasn't sure about it, but I know that switching to another class makes me start fresh skill upgrade-wise. I've noticed that they do go down the fastest of all the turrets, couple of mortar shots and its free cash for any gunners. Thanks for the tip.

If you suicide and change classes, your skills do NOT transfer between classes, but the skills you bought for your old class are retained for the remainder of the round. Your cash is also saved.

Yea, that's what I was wondering, thanks for the clarification, I knew the skill levels didn't transfer to my new class, but I wanted to know if they were retained when switched back to the old one from the new.

Personally, if I'm stuck with a strategy-impared team, I work toward my skills for a fair amount of time, to get the bare necessities I need to play well.

After that, a large amount of money goes toward the base. If my team picks up on it and attempts to keep the turrets functioning, I'm free to spend money on skills and hazards. However, if my team continues to fail, I usually fall back to level 3 Lazer Blazers.

After playing some more tonight, it seems more effective to just completely disregard turrets and spend all my remaining money on some juice spam in overtime. I'm ashamed of it. (At least in pubs anyway.)

Out of curiosity, what class do you play when you ask this question.

Anyways, in most pubs, it comes down to map control and lane pushing. If you're constantly on the defensive, a turret can help stem the tide but consider your economic options since if you're being pushed in that they'll probably destroy whatever you build.

I can personally attest that in overtime, most people will find a blind spot in your defenses so whatever you've built is useless, I.E. the ledges on LaseRazor, the far edge of Steel Peel, the bot spawns of Ammo Mule.

Disclaimer: Excuse me for getting out of topic for a sec.

But don't be ashamed to use the tools that the developers put into the game. The size of the word "cheapness" is very relative. If the method is there for everyone and you got to it first, then they can only blame themselves for the consequences.
