Hi, So I don't know if the developers read the forum or not, but I'll proceed to ask anyways. I remember reading that you guys are not planning on making a campaign because people don't spend that much time on them, but if you were given a story outline/complete story would you look it over? I'm not even expecting it to be considered, but I just wanted to ask. Never hurts to offer. Personally, I love most RTS campaigns. I've spent around half my time in Supreme Commander: FA (probably 50+ hours) playing the campaign because I enjoyed the missions and found them fun to add perspective to. (like side dialogue voiced by me....because I'm weird and thus acting with myself) If any of the team actually ends up reading this, thanks for your time. ( If not, I'm sure somebody will get a laugh about me talking to myself)
Campaigns are expensive to create. They usually need to be developed completely separate from the multiplayer aspects as the balance needs to be 'Locked in' long before it's actually ready for release. Considering the return on such investments is really small, Uber is instead working on something Similar, Galactic War. The Returns on the Galactic War are much much better than a regualr single player campaign. Mike
I don't know where you got the suggestion that people don't spend long on them, though thinking about it it's probably true, the reason I read was they are expensive. Coming from the C&C games, I've always had a single player campaign. But I've seen games string together several procedural events into a generalised campaign without much trouble. The community will be able to mod in a linear campaign at a later date. I've seen a few mods do it to C&C in the past, and have high hopes that people will get together some mini-campaigns before long.
The current plan is to expose enough logic to JS (javascript) that campaigns can be created. However, we aren't quite ready to do that yet (as this will require access to the server as well as some unimplemented features).
I've played campaigns more than a dozen times. Much more than skirmish, and much more than online play. And yes, I still, rarely, launch The Firts Decade to play some Command & Conquer campaigns. Or Supreme Commander. Or whatever.
