Question for Brad/Uber

Could you guys give us a small hint that points us in the direction of the new way to annihilate planets?

They probably won't.
Remember, we're most likely getting the new build before PAX starts.
PAX starts on August 29th.
So we're either getting it REAAAAAAAAAAAAL soon, or tomorrow.

Asteroids might fit the description, but not too well (still planet smashing). They'd also bring a lot more than just annihilating to the table, and would probably warrant a better description (like major game-changer), so it probably isn't asteroids.

As for what's left, metal planet laser is the only known, planned feature that is best described as a 'new annihilation option'. At this point, I think it's safe to say that we'll see metal planet lasers in 1.0.

doesn't the gaz giant swallow it? maybe a big, quasi-permanent gaz mushroom?

certainly no "chipping away" no big explosion. at least not until it reaches the core and by then the thickness of the gaz masks alot of the light.

That's actually a good point. What will happen when we smash a gas giant? Hopefully it won't just plop down the same crater as normal planets get.

Maybe gas giants will be "unsmashable?" After all, they're tiny rock worlds with an immense layer of gas, and the impactor planet may compress and get crushed due to extreme atmospheric pressure.

And my guess is that sending a planet into a gas giant will do the same thing as a planet hitting the sun right now (which is possible with orbits set up the right way). That is, you get the big white explosion particles, but no rocky debris.

Turns out it's actually an MIRV nuclear missile launcher.

The massive gravitational pull of the gas giant would rip the planet apart I think. Then it would be absorbed and added to the core of the gas giant who whould resume circling around the sun like it's just another monday at the office.
The real question is what happens when a gas giant collides with a planet that is bigger than the gas 'giant'.

Based on any and all info I can find, I doubt terrestrial planets that are 'larger' than gas giants could form without themselves becoming gas giants. When you have very big planets, they get very massive. When you have very massive planets, they'll hold a lot of atmosphere.

that's the whole point, they're alot fukin bigger, they can't be smaller.
