Balancing Aircraft is a difficult thing, I certainly saw the skewing of player behaviour in SC:FA with ASF use in late game. Maybe we can discuss ways to limit air power in this thread. One thought I had was having the idea of projected airpower via ground structures. Using things like Aircraft factories and aircraft repair platforms as hubs for projected airpower. Aircraft could not operate outside of these projected hubs. This would limit air strikes into the heart of an opponents base (unless the attacker had hidden an aircraft hub nearby) and instead give aircraft more of a reactionary role. Due to their superior speed and ability to fly straight to a target they could be a great tool to slow down an incoming enemy force while you rally your ground troops. It also means that you need to use ground troops to expand your projected airpower, by securing aircraft repair platforms/aircraft factories on the front line. What are people's thoughts on this, and also, do you have different ideas on how to balance aircraft.
Agreed, this has been discussed very extensively already. That said, I restate my opinion that air units should be constrained by both fuel and ammunition, and that they should be intelligent enough that these requirements do not impose micromanagement burdens on the player. They should affect how the player uses their air units, not burden the player with tedious clicking.
Apologies, must have missed them, I will just add to that thread and attempt to close this one. Thanks for the info. Moved idea to the link below: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=35080&start=29
Theres been 3 threads on this already. I will restate my opinion that fuel and ammo is quite possibly the worst thing you could do to aircraft. Check the threads if you want to know why.
Remember in supreme commander how turrets and buildings had a fixed energy consumption? Did the units also do that? That might be an option So you could say "This bomber always consumes 20 energy" so building an advanced reactor that produces 1,000 energy would let you keep 50 bombers in the air. And if you wanted to take out someone's massive air force you could go after their power plants.
