Last night I was watching Star Trek: The Next Generation :ugeek: and I came across an episode which made me think of PA. Basically, this civilization was eons old & they had this interactive supercomputer which could do…everything. They became so advanced that they stopped learning how things worked. When asked, “Who built the supercomputer?” their reply was “…the Progenitors.” Could the Progenitors in PA be somewhat inspired by this episode? Are the devs Star Trek fans? I thought it was cool, so I am sharing.

BTW: I understand what the definition of 'Progenitor' is.

FYI: It is Season 1: Episode 17 (When the Bough Breaks), just in case anyone wanted to watch it. ;)

    Re: Progenitor

I loved that episode, stopped watching TNG though... Doctor Who is now my favorite.

I think this is more or less the premise of the game, but with less emotion and more kill-bots. All of the kill-bots were created by the progenitors to war/protect/do things, but the kill-bots either overstepped their bounds or just went rogue and murdered everything.

Now they float about in space, incapable of upgrading their technology because they are too stupid to do so, and all they can really do is expand, kill, expand, kill, expand.

Uh, what? Perhaps you can explain what form of technology is left to upgrade?

I think I've already explained my stance on that in a previous thread. To sum it up, there is no limit to anything, any and all limits are only based on perception.

Not by that episode in particular but I am a *huge* ST:TNG fan. In fact it's probably my favorite television series of all time.

The progenitors existence is all about the root of the conflict. Where did the metal planets come from? Where did the commanders come from? What are the differences between the commanders factions and why. The progenitors hold the key to a lot of this. Think about the root of the word ;)

Progenitor tends to always refer to a previous race that was advanced and came before the "current" whatever. Like in Homeworld the Progenitors were an advanced species capable of travelling between galaxies. They created the technology (warp core) that literally all of the space faring technology in that universe is based off of.
